whats up vfr i found a 1984 vf500 for 200 bucks runs sounds good looks good has 20k only thing wrong when running oil leaks out of left side somewhere. i havnt even messed with it yet. just found this forum looks like i have lots of reading to do. any suggestions would be great.

First things first. Pick up a copy of the FSM. This is a must have.

Regarding the possible leak, this could be the clutch push rod seal, a somewhat common malady.

Here is a solution, if you find that this is the case:

thanks for response i plan on digging into it tomorrow i hope its nothing major lot of miles but hey 200 bucks for a running bike im not hurt its got to be the coolest looking bike for being so old

Here is the culprit to look for (sprocket cover has been removed in these photos). In order to replace the seal you have to split the cases which is a major project, hence the 'shrink tube' technique. Hope this is of help and let us know what you find.

 

thats it i would bet thats the area of the leak thanks for all the help. ive been busy havnt got a chance to check it out hoping this weekend i will get some time. i will let u guys know how it turns out. thanks again. i have also recently found 85 vf700 for 1000 bucks looks very clean but havnt seen in person. what do u think a nice one is worth
