It was definately under 10,000rpm... my mind is recalling 9600.
I forgot to add that I was using a K&N drop in filter, too, and the ground was level.

It was a dark and stormy night as I rode into the sunset at Mach 1.8. BTW, I was on a Honda 90.

probably best that you kept it to mach 1.8 if it was dark and stormy out. Guessing you were wearing Nike shoes too.

I seen 159 MPH on my 99 vfr few years back but my sat nav said only 148 MPH at the end of the day
when I checked it for top speed but only 135MPH on my 2001 vfr I think the CAT in the exhaust stopped it doing any more bit down on power
I seem to enjoy 80 Mph most of the time town riding not inclueded

The fastest I've had my '94 was 141MPH. The speedo indicated around 155-160, but the gps on my phone picked up a 141MPH top speed. This was done with a TBR exhaust, a stage 2 jet kit, and an air filter badly needing replaced. I also had a Givi box packed full of a weekends worth of clothes and such on the back too. She had a little more room to run, but I was coming up fast on some traffic and had to back off.

I have a 1998 5th Gen VFR that has 30K on the clock. I have ridden and continue to ride the wheels off of it because I miss the RC51 it replaced. I have gotten my Viffer to an indicated 155 MPH which is the same figures as most bike mag reviews have stated. I have issues with the gentleman that has the 80's vintage Interceptor 700 claiming he went 160-170 MPH. I had a 1988 CBR1000 Hurricane that had a top speed of 161 MPH and I seriously doubt that the 700 Interceptor would beat that. The specs on that bike states a top speed of 151 MPH.

    Gen 2 & Gen 3 top speeds - verified

Was riding my buddies '90 VFR750 (the one I'd been working on recently) and the fastest I've had that one up to was 130 mph (verified by MyTracks on my Droid). I'd have pushed her further, but it was mid-day and light traffic so I didn't want to risk getting a nasty ticket -- that and it's not my bike.

My '86... verified top speed using MyTracks is 141 mph max speed during a 5 mile WOT in 6th gear down the US 60 in 71 degree temp, 16% humidity with the sun at my back and the saddle bags off. With the bags on I have a hard time getting above 130 mph.

Oh, and for the record: 6th gear - 6k rpms - 85 mph with light throttle is my girls sweet spot. She'll run all day like that.

I'll say again, for those in the cheap seats (who don't read back that far):

You are absolutely correct. I posted on this thread a while back that the verified top speed of the 5th/6th gens were just below 150mph, according to several testers (magazine and websites). Since everyone agrees you can only get 10-20 more ponies outta the Interceptor with bolt-ons, one should only expect a few more mph, so maybe 155-160 MAX with mods; since everyone also agrees weight doesn't have much impact on over-all top speed, that's about all she wrote.

Everyone also agreed that the speedo is about 10% off in general, so 160-16=144, which is more realistic.

    ___
"She's fast enough for you old man..." "She'll make .5 past light speed. She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid. I've made a lot of special modifications myself."

Now, I personally have gotten my highly modified Viffer up to 1170.42 Miles/hour (mph), VERIFIED! Top that!

(OK, so that includes the rotational speed of the earth, which is 1040.42 Miles/hour (mph) at the equator, this was not corrected for latitude, but still, it's actual speed!)
    ___

OK, I hate to be a bit of a party pooper here, and don't want to start a Flame War or anything :)flamer:), BUT, perhaps a bit of a reality check for me is needed here: The question is "VFR Top Speed is ????"

The VFR is NOT a dedicated race-replica bike, I think we can all agree to that. The 2009 Suzuki GSXR600 is.

    The Suzie's stats are:
    110 RWHP
    432 lbs.

The 6th gen Interceptor's stats are:
    ~100 RWHP
    540 lbs.

The 2009 GSXR600's top speed is 158 MPH. I'm finding it a bit difficult to believe that a bike with less ponies and much heavier somehow has a higher top speed... Per Cycle World's stats, the top speed of a 6th Gen VFR800 is 148 MPH (Cycle World - Speed Wagons), while SportRider says 151MPH for 5th (1998 Honda VFR800 Interceptor - Road Test & Review - Sport Rider) and 146MPH for an '05 according to VisorDown.com (Road Test: R1200ST v. ST3 v. VFR800 v. Sprint ST - Road Tests - Visordown). Which would be more inline with my expectations.

Now, I also know that top speed is more a component of HP, aerodynamics (per klee27x), gearing, and weather conditions; I also know that given enough "runway", weight doesn't play that much of a role in top speed. However, the math is still the math.

Y'all must have some seriously, highly modified Viffers out there... However, that fly's in the face with the fact that on multiple posts here, it is made clear that the VFR is not the best bike to mod out and doesn't have that many "go fast" parts... AND if we were asking here what is the absolute top speed of the Viffer, we should just get a hold of A&A and call it good, cause I doubt anyone's VFR makes more ponies and could go faster than their supercharged bike.

So my answer is: ~148MPH stock & whatever A&A's bike's top speed is, for the "modified class".

Pulls pin on grenade from outside door, tosses into room, smiles and waits...:kaboom:
