I have a 5th and 6th Gen VFR. I like the 5th gen best personally, but would say you gotta do the R/R fan modification and upgrade the 5th Gen suspension - I like the 2k Yellow 5th Gen. The 6th Gen is a great bike, but I like the 5th gen better on the track and for more aggressive riding - especially if I gotta keep up with younger guys on GSXRs, R1s and 1000cc CBRs. The 6th gen VFR has a better suspension to me, but the VTEC kills the fun part of the bike for me.

I see the second and third gens are turning out to be real popular. Just saying.

I have been thinking about it for a while now and I think I'd prob go for the RWB 2007 even though I prefer the gear driven cams. It's the only other Vfr I have seriously considered trading scratch for.

I voted for gen4 because that is my favorite bike. I rode the gen5 when I bought mine, but like carbs better than FI. My husband bought the yellow gen5, and I could ride it if nothing else were available, but it is not my second choice. I picked up a '93 this summer (gen3) and am liking it more and more. It has a lot of mods and is smoother than my gen4, but I won't set it up for long-distance like my gen4. The later gens just don't seem as much fun, not as raw as the earlier ones, IMHO.

It took me a long time to find my 2000 vfr so I think I would vote for a 5th gen.
I tried a 6th gen and a 5th gen before buying and had to have the 5th gen. Took me a while to find a nice one but I am happy I did........... Never tried a 7th... I think that would nice.

My experience is limited to the 3rd, 5th and 6th gen. The 3rd gen was a great ride, very smooth and nimble. The racier 5th gen is a fine ride too and would be my second choice.

I like my buddies 5th Gen and love my 4th Gen and would not suffer at all if I had to choose between the two. Honestly though I liked the 7th Gen VFR when it first came out but now the more I look at it and how much it costs my positive feelings have become quite neutral. If I were forced to purchase a brand spanking new bike similar to what I/we currently ride it would be a Sprint GT...sorry!

Hands down . . . the 5th Gen. Sub category '98 and '99 because they
don't have the cat (better headers) that the 2000 and 2001 have.
'98 and '99 bikes are real keepers.
    Real VFRs are always gear-driven!

Maybe I'm reading too much into the question... But strictly to ride? The new one then, 7th gen 1200. If I have to pretend that I can't do anything to it, except ride it; then definitely a new 1200.

Not sure I can bump an old post but here goes...
I'm currently a '84 v65 Sabre owner and can't imagine why I'd want to have anything but a Honda v4.
But the old girl is in need of some work so I decided to look for a second bike to ride this spring.
Seems the 5th and 6th gen vfrs were the winners in this poll. But from what I've been reading, 3rd gen owners seem to really like their bike, a lot.

Any chance of updating this poll whilst I shop for my 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th gen vfr?

5th Gen, tried the 6th and preferred mine.
High tech got to be it`s useful best at around 1996 to 2000 after that ,too many sensors and black boxes .

I want to fix my bike with tools not a laptop

I chose 6th because its mostly new, I don't want a old bike, abs brakes too. The 1200 cost too much and don't sound as good as from what I hear.

Having ridden or owned most generations of the VFR, I agree the gear driven cams of the fifth gen is very alluring.
Each gen has its magnetic appeal. In the end though I will take the 07 RWB. When I purched my 6th gen new I also was being torn by a used 5 the gen. No regrets.

Michael, I've been looking at this 07. Comes with the added bonus of a 400 mile ride home. Well, I guess that could be the nightmare ride home too.

Nice looking, non abs. In my neck of the woods the blue book retail is 5,700. Stock.
Having the bags is a plus. I would hope the sprockets and chain have been replaced. Ask if the valves have been checked. Might help with some wiggle room on the price. I had mine checked at 32k and still in spec. Can't see the tires in the pic but for that price they should be nearly new. Look for signs of a drop , scuffed mirrors, bar ends, foot pegs, ect.. Seems a little high on the price haggle with him. The ride may be a blessing to you but he need not know that, use it to your advantage. I love the RWB.

Thanks for the advice Michael. I'm guessing his higher price is tied to it being a single owner bike. Which is kind of appealing.
