After reading post and on here and talking to a few people who own VFRs I'm wondering is it possible the R/R burns out due to the seat cowl. My bike has 45,000 miles on it and is used mostly for touring and rural riding and don't have the cowl on it. It has the factory R/R still on it. I also have a rack on it so the grap handles have been removed which leaves alot of open area around the base of the seat that looks like it would allow more air to travel thru instead of being trapped under the seat which would keep the R/R cooler.
    Watcha think?

I would tend to agree with you, mine has 23K on the odometer and original R/R. I've been recently considering replacing it before it goes on me however as I'm aware of the common failures. I've never used a seat cowl but that's only because I don't have one.

Sorry, can't agree with your hypothesis.
