Solution for drooping rear signals?

    My 2nd gen has the droopy rear signal problem.

    I tried purchasing sets off of "low mileage" 2nd gen signals from ebay and from forum members but every set is the same. Droopy and extremely bouncy.

    I got an aftermarket set....small diamond shape with LED's in 'em.....but they suck.

    Anyone got any suggestions for me please?

    I don't know if they're the same but for my '85 1000R, 600RR signals were a direct bolt up. Check eBay, you can usually get them cheap as take offs. From your pic they look identical.

    I have the same problem, and I don't want to replace droopy signals that work with non-droopy signals that don't. Very interested to see what suggestions come up!

    I bought new ones but drilled them and installed aluminum rods so they will never droop or bounce. Should work on old ones maybe heat them and bend them strait first.

    Actually not a terrible idea Captb. They are designed 'that way' so that they don't break off if they get bumped; but I agree they look f'kd up once they begin to droop. My KR has aftermarkets on it (had incorrectly installed LED's when I got it and I'm changing them back to normal bulbs), and there are a TON of choices if you don't have to keep the bike 'original'. Just don't get LED's unless you plan on installing load resistors in your wiring harness - somewhere on the bike.

    This is an easy fix. order a pair of the Front shorty and but them on the back. problem Fixed

    I like this idea but the ones I'm seeing on Ebay are over $100 a pair.

    The Fronts on the 2nd gen (or atleast my second gen) are longer than the rears.

    I had a local parts guy order me new ones from Tucker Rocky about $7 each, (NOTE) the parts number was wrong, I can't remember the deal but the one set came in wrong length. i put the shorter ones on the rear that he got in, quality is ok.

    I've replaced the stalks on just about all of my bikes. I can't remember if I tried Honda first to see if you could still get them, but there was a company on eBay a few years back that sold them pretty cheap and they're still not drooping. I'll see if I can dig up an old receipt to see who sold them.

    When my left rear got sheared after my collision I decided to repair it myself. The metal post was ripped out along with the wiring to the bulb. I drilled in with some decent sized bits and inserted some steel pipe around the diameter of the original post and embedded it as far as it would go. Soldered the wires back and cut the head off a bolt with decent length and the same diameter and pitch of the original and shoved that in a good ways and voila, way cheaper than buying it new from Honda. Doesn't look like it will droop any time soon.

    I always keep my open for the front VF500F stalks. They are the shortest and stiffest of that design.
    Back in the day, Targa used to sell "Turn Signal Tuckers". They were simply aluminum blocks with holes drilled and tapped to mount to the stay and the signal. It put the signal right up against the stay. Not sure how this affected bulb life.
    Think I have a couple sets in a drawer if someone wants to see them.

    I tried something else. I just took both the rear signals apart, flipped sides for the lights, and now they are even again. To do this I had to cut the light's wires on each and just use the mount for the opposite side. Reattach lines and...VIOLA! good luck hope this helps

    I guess another way of saying it was just swap sides that the signals are on.

    You shouldn't of had to cut any wires to swap the stays. But whatever works I guess.

    Most riders probably don't know that the exact spacing of front and rear turn indicators ON YOUR BIKE was determined in WASHINGTON, DC by US agency govment officials who hired outside coontractor guys in private labs to research some stuff to help establish scientific data to help determine the best guess for Federal bureau workers who made up "standards" that every US bike needed FOR SAFETY, in 1972, always allowing for various vehicle makers lobbying for what they prefer.

    DOT, NTHSA, Dept of Transportation, other regulators decreed the wideness, but no need for you to too.

    Honda had to hang your turn lights on those absurd stalks for Federal rules, so let's have all libertarians get the Federal hands off our motorcycles ! EPA, too !@!

    Honda--or their supplier--makes 3 different lengths for the rubber mount (47mm, 34mm, and 23mm), and you should try the shorties, original on the '83-'86 VF500 front but possibly listed for the rear.

    Dennis Kirk has what you need on page 668 of their current catalog, made undoubtedly in China for K&S, listed as part # 21-494 @ $10 each. This cleans up the lines of the bike alot.

    Confirmed doityourselfers with time to spend--probably unemployed like me-- can haksaw off a minimum -length rubber mount and improvise the proper hardware to secure it shown in second illustration.

    Also, you can slighly bend the chassis mounting tab for horizontal alignment.

    But, hey, it's natural for things to sag a bit with age, innit???

    600RR signals bolt on. The housing is slightly different shape, but I never noticed much. The racers are taking these off all the time, they should be inexpensive aftermarket items.
