Hi there folks. Just bought a new battery (I figured the old one was the problem) and my bike still refuses to crank or turn over. Everything else electrical seems to work fine. Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks in advance! BTW the bike is a 2002 Interceptor
I don't mean to sound condescending here, but let's first make sure all the "easy" stuff is in order: When you turn the key on, does the headlight come on and the FI light, and can you hear the fuel pump prime? Is the kill switch in the ON position? Is the kickstand up and clutch engaged, OR do you have it in neutral? The 02 VFR will only start in gear if the clutch is in and kickstand is up, but should start in neutral with the clutch out and the kickstand down.
Thanks for replying. All the things you mentioned are working fine, and I am following the correct starting procedure, it simply won't turn over. Still scratching my head on this one.
Welp then you may have a faulty starter switch. Do you hear the pump prime when you turn the key on ? (this'll prove out your kill switch - the pump won't prime if the bike is "killed")
Fuel does "prime" when switch is turned on. As for the starter switch, I don't think that's the problem. When I press the switch I hear a click (not like a solenoid trying to engage, like with a dead battery) but a click like there's not enough amperage to engage the starter. I did noticed that before it completely decided not to start this year that it was becoming increasingly "weak" when turning over last season when I started it that's why I replaced the battery. Any additional feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Test battery, starter motor and starter switch by jumping the 2 large terminals on top of the starter switch. Results ??
