I recently graduated college and have an internship with Toyota at their headquarters in Torrance, CA. Last week I loaded my stuff up in my truck(VFR included), and drove from Pittsburgh, PA to California with the ladyfriend along for the ride. Stayed at campgrounds along the way and saw the grand canyon. It was an awesome trip that I wish I could have done on the bike, but there will be time for that another day. The reason for the post is I'm looking for people who ride in socal and where do you go to get away from all the 107 lane highways?

Lucky bastard.... I despirately want to move to socal to get into the big agencies. (To work, not to act ) And all year riding season. But I would never move out without a job. Thats financial suicide.

Might be better to find out some of the places not to ride first. There are parts of LA that are not good places to be in when the sun goes down.

Torrrance is also HQ for a shitload of Honda goings on.

One that is close to Torrance if you are not commuting from who knows where is a short loop around the Palos Verde Peninsula.

I look forward to meeting you at Reggies next year. Welcome to the site and welcome to the west coast. Come on up to my place for a beer. My brother lives in California. Maybe you will get to know him.

Thanks for the candid replies folks. Badbilly, I am aware of the not so pleasant areas around here even if I've only been in town for less than two days. They've got me staying at Univ. of Cali. Dominguez Hills, So I'm only 3 miles from work. I haven't yet had a chance to find a way out of the city and search for twisties...

Yep, my old stomping grounds. Not many hills left there since they were leveled. That whole area was a Spanish land grant
Rancho De Dominguez. Included were, now what is Torrance, Wilmington, Long Beach, San Pedro, Carson, and of course Dominguez

Picking the right times on the slabs in LA is the trick. There are places to ride that are heaven but getting there is where planning is critical.

Find some soul/bike mates at work and don't pay too much attention to what the cagers tell you.

Take Almeda to 101 and ride North or South. There are backroads in the SoCal area that are lightly travelled.

The slabs in the greater LA Basin at certain times of the day are like the Autobahn..

Good thing crows fly cause that saves him about 200 miles.

Just Curious BB, this is not the first time you used Victoria as a reference for my place of abode. This just for convenience or you think I actually live there? Wished I did. Great city if you can put up with all those blue haired old people. But I live in down town Cowshitsville BC. Officially it is called Chilliwack.

I think my brother used to work in Torrance though. Is that where MacDonald Douglas has their plant? He used to work there in the military side of things until he got laid off during the big slump in what was it...the early 80's? Cold war was almost over, Bin Laden was still in puberty, and Al Qaeda was a word that someone tried using in Scrabble game but was gonged cause it was nothing.

I can pick up the coastal highway down here, I was thinking about giving that a shot. Though I know its not too pleasant until it gets further north.

Randy that post is borderline poetic. I might hit up the mulholland Hwy tomorrow, otherwise known as "The Snake"

Thanks crusty, I figured it would be. I actually hadn't planned on riding it on the weekends to avoid LEO's and traffic but I'm itching to ride somewhere other than the city streets.

Scubalong is probably good for more than one beer too. That is, if he doesn't get swept away in OC and become a Republican.. I will pray for him.

What up bro? My cousin got recruited for that Toyota thing right out of college too. Anyway, I am humble enough to admit that NO ONE on this board knows South Bay and LACO better than me. Stay out of the Santa Monica Mtns. (The Snake) between 10am and 6pm on the weekends. I'm just getting over a broken hand/arm but I'm down to ride for a couple hours. I'm in Hawthorne. <30mins from Sunset & PCH (Hwy27, Mullholland, Latigo, Stunt Rd, Saddle Peak, Tuna and many more.) <45mins from Big/Little Tujunga, Hwy2, 39, GMR, Azusa Cyn, and a couple others in/around Mt Wilson and Mt Baldy. As far as BB suggesting the peninsula... They have been working the last decade to straighten Portuguese Bend, and the number of traffic lights and stop signs have quadrupled since I started riding on the street 17 yrs ago. Great place to take chicks though...

Part of that work in PV is because of slump and that real estate giant buying up where the old Marineland of the Pacific was. So did you bust your arm on the twisties in PV or stop on 101 between Almeda and Wilmas for a taco and get jumped.. or maybe on 101 just North of the traffic circle. (Baja Longo) Probably not there or you wouldn't be posting at all.. ;)

JTC, you'll have to show me all the roads round these parts. Yeah the snake was kind of a madhouse today. The hangout spot was so crowded I didn't even try and pull in.
