I have a 2000 with a catless header and 2 Brothers slip on. I don't have a PC. I've been running it this way for about 3 years, and no issues. I weigh about 240 pounds, and if I choose to there are no problems in getting the wheel off in first or second gear.

While the engine does feel a little "choppy" at slow speed maneuvers, I don't think I've ever seen any performance problems, except for maybe gas mileage. I probably average about 35 to 37 mpg, but I'm also not too easy on the throttle. When commuting, I probably hang in the 5,000 to 6,000 (higher at times) range based on the posted speed limits and roads I travel. If I'm out with the boys for a day of fun, I'm probably in the 7,000 to 10,000 range all day.

Excellent information...a better looking clamp that will match my new header at a much cheaper price than OEM...that looks like it's made the same way as the band clamp on the can, stock. I'll be picking up at least a pair.

Have the Motad headers, not sure it added anything to the noise, but hard to say as I did multiple things at once. No downside except the $$

Hope the people on here that bought Delkevic headers made sure to check the rear ports where the pipes were welded together. They do a crap job of cutting the holes out. There pics are on here or over on vfrd.

too clear up a few things.... the 98-99 dont have cats on them because those years are carb..... the 00-01 are FI and have cats, if you switch out the headers and exhaust (i went with a full erion racing) and you have the potential of running rich w/o the use of a PC (my bike starts to flood out 1-2 cylinders below 2500rpm when moving)

The '98-'99 are EFI. Thay just dont have a cat or a hot idle wax unit.

    Interesting.

I never had these problems, and I've been running catless with my 00 since 2005. All I did was solder a resistor in the 02 sensor plug in the approprite place to simulate the sensor...just to get the FI light to go out. Otherwise it won't matter once the bike warms up and goes into closed loop...it doesn't poll the sensors after warmup anyway.

Cool. I just got mine in this evening, I'll check on that thanks.

...I'm not sure what you intended by posting that link, but the enrichment effect of which he speaks is true for that product only. It is intended for use as a tuning tool.

A resistor only, properly chosen, would not have this effect. It has been well known for years, used by thousands with no ill effects.

Not everything has to be purchased retail...you can engineer your own fixes you know.

I never stated you needed to purchase anything. Just posted that vid for people to understand what the resistor does.

The stock headers on my 86 are a type of stainless steel. After 25 years they are discolored but are not rusty. Perhaps yours are as well.
I had them off and after I wire brushed one of the front ones I took a photo.

Maybe you just want a new muffler?

All our exhaust pipes are stainless. If they were just steel you'd know the first time the bike hit water.

    Motad headers

Just fitted some Motad headers to my VFR800. Great fit, performance indistinguishable from new, VERY shiny and a good price too.
No power gain as such; the bike just feels the same as if the OEM headers were on. This is quite an achievement as modern exhausts are VERY well developed. I have the stock can on the Motad headers.
Sound wise, there has been a slight increase in noise. The sound has a bit more of a gruff 'bark'. Love it.
    Highly recommended!

I finally got my bike custom mapped..... delkevic, headers and shorty oval delkevic pipe, k & n filter, pc iii.......... sounds great............ running awsome... super smooth and front wheel has no problem comming off the ground under hard throttle in 1st and 2nd using engine power only. little dissapointed in the hp at wheel #s ..... but the performance is what counts and it pulls hard up to 210 k then it slowly creeps up to about 240 k ........ ran out of road, but I think that was pretty much it anyway.
I really notice how it pulls at 140 k when rolling on the throttle coming out of nice sweepers........... I am very happy with the power and performance this setup has given me.
Will post my dyno results soon.................. dont come on here much in the summer.......... Im busy riding !
