I'd look more at the 98. it appears to have been set up for long distance, and gentle riding, whereas the newer one was set up for hard riding.

Is seller #2 including all the original parts in the sale price. He just says he has all the parts.

I'm willing to be that if you go with cash in hand, either seller would take a slightly lower offer: try $3,500 or go more if you're comfortable with it (its not our business how you spend your money. if you like either bike and like the price, then go for it).

Bike one lists the Givi side and back racks, but without the actual luggage and unless you were planning on putting bags on, listing it in the description just seems like "fluff". The Pazzo's are a nice touch, and looks like he's eliminated the fender as well.

Ask both sellers about maintenance records. Ask both on whether the R/R and/or wiring harness were updated.
    Seat cowl with bike 2?
Tool kit and owners manual for either?

I think they both look pretty clean, and neither one has a lot of mileage.

Good luck and keep us posted.

close call. I have a 2000 & a 1998. the Sargent Seat is a must for me - i have that on both. the 2001 has (had) a Catalytic Converter. I sold the Givi Bag setup for $300+. I prefer soft bags - they come off easily & i usually just use a tank bag; or a tank bag + a tail bag . the 98 has a manual choke / 2001 automatic. the bar risers are a slight comfort improvement. I have a 2Bros can on my 2000 - nice exhaust....not familiar w/ delkavic. The price might be a little high on both. either would be a good ride from the looks of things. check for evience of fall downs at the pillion pegs & bar ends. I am planning to change out the ugly mirrors on my 98. 2001 mirrors are superior. tough choice....things could be worse!

Either is good for $3500 ish. The 98 headers are better. The 01 has better mirrors $65 ea to get them for a 98. Givi luggage and racks I got for 250 or 300 and barely ever use cause the luggage is barfing ugly. Most people want an aftermarket pipe. Try both the bikes and see if you favor one. You won't hate either.

Buy the '01, then call the 98 seller and see if you can trade seats plus cash.

FYI. The header difference between having a cat and not is minimal.

4k is about what a dealer here in the seattle would ask for. You should be able to get it for $3200-3500 from a private party. sargent seats are around $350ish range

This might be a dumb question, but what is the advantage/disadvantage to either having or not having a cat?

What I don't like about the '98 is that the bike is missing all the decals. I like the decals personally.

If you are sure about a seat, talk to both sellers and make sure the price is about the same that they will take. Who knows the one with the eat you don't like may go down another $250 making decision easy.

Well, how comfortable are the stock VFR seats? Can you do a 500 mi trip without too much discomfort?

Sure you can do it. But you might feel like you just spent a week in a Mexican prison with your cell mate Juan.

Hmmm... Why is missing the decals? Repaint? Why? Was the bike down?

It's not very comfortable compared to a Sargent or Corbin, but compared to a ducati it's awesome! I did a seat compare a while back of those three and IMO the Sargent barely edged out the Corbin...

#1 if you plan on having the saddles and/or tail luggage.
Else, go for #2 and the nice seat.

+1 on the Sargent seat. Never had one on a VFR; but I did on my '01 Aprilia SL1000 (Falco), and that thing was all-day comfie with the Sargent, and I could do about 200 miles on the stocker before I had to get off.

well....clean air..i guess. and a few pounds, more hoses...or an O2 sensor maybe. I have a 98 & a 2000 & i really don't notice any difference. seems like the exhaust note is a little deeper on the 2000. but performance & fuel economy....no diff.
