so it happened. was up mt baker a few weekends ago and low sided in a corner. entire L/H side of the bike is toast in the front, L/H fork bent, front fender in 3 pieces and cracks in rear plastic. i just received 2 used front forks or a 97 for 120 on eBay, straight (checked on the surface table at work) great condition and they slid in perfectly.
so now the to do list is
-new front end plastic, i have contacted thurn in Germany and will get the from there
-plastic weld front fender back together and reinforce(due to added stress from welds)
    -get new windscreen
    -new mirror
    -fab up solo seat cowl
-make 3 piece tail into one piece(nicer lines due to lack of joints)
    -929 shock
once that is all done its paint time.

Since I'm on the hook now (because Stosh sent me parts for free), I have a '96 front fender that is intact, but scratched up. You can have it if you want.

E-mail me at krazykarguy at hotmail dot com.

Thanks but I actualy just am about finished tha repairs on the fender. Will post some pictures of repairs when I have time. I also have my seat cowl coming along nicely. The next thought is if I should shave the signal lights and go to the rc30 tail lights and do integrated signals.

so i have my front fender repairs, plastic weld 3 pieces back into one piece and reinforce, and the solo seat cowl is coming along nicely. i have found a source for rc30 tail lights just waiting on some dimensions so i can ensure it will fit into the spot i want before ordering. i have also got the fairing ordered from thurn motorsports in Germany, they should be shipping in 3 weeks time. will keep up with the mods and bodywork as parts arrive. the next thing to order will be a windscreen and a l/h mirror. also considering cutting the windscreen down by 2'' in height or length what ever way you view it.

Have you considereed ditching the OEM condom style mirrors? The EMGO replacement mirrors on my 3rd Gen were made for the 5th gen but will fit any year VFR between 1990 and 2001 and they look much better IMO and much cheaper than OEM.

I pulled all of that emissions garbage off of my '96 and it's like 3.5 lbs of junk. You will need to come up with block off plates for the cylinder head ports and the two intake ports at the carbs.

I cut off the chrome tubes at the mounting bosses, and plug welded them closed.

    Good work on the fender.

I was thinking of making up 4 plates out of some .050" or .063" alluminium scrap at work and just reusing the gasket and bolts. I may go thicker depending on what I see when I open it up. I already have the intake side all plugged off.

I have a set of Two Bros. block off plates on my bike, as I recall, they also fit some year GSXR. If you do a bit of research you might find out which year is was.

But they are simple plates that you should be able to fab. up pretty quickly.

Dennis Kirk sells Emgo's, but I can't seem to make their website spit out which ones these are. Do you have the Emgo model #?

ask and you shall receive. the lights in and the tail is trimmed. all that is left is hours of sanding till the shape is perfect, paint then hours of wet sanding and cut polishing till the shine is perfect. should be easy right....... IMG_0362.jpg IMG_0364.jpg IMG_0363.jpg

    finaly finished

well it has been a while, since i have posted up anything on the project. Other than the final wet sand and polish the bike is done, until the next mod is to be done. i also custom machined a set of frame sliders (could not find any that fit specifically) that bolt through the fwd. eng mount bolts, which have a stress point machined into them as a breaking/cracking point to hopefully prevent frame a tweaked frame if she goes down at speed. Not sure how well they will working hoping i never know but going by the rash from the crash that was the best location and length. I also machined up a new set of bar end weights.

the next thing i am considering is converting the head light assy to dual HID projectors. But lots of research do do before i do that.
