VFRCHICK-Glad it wasn't worse than it was. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good, although this sounds like a combination of both.WATCH THAT INFECTION, they can be worse than any break. More good luck to you.

Get well soon! Just read what happened to you today. Only the good die young and hope you continue being you. And I mean that in a good way. So many different scenarios that could have happened and you got the best one... you lived to talk about it and I'm personally happy that your still with us. You're one in a million.

So, the good news is I got MRI results back from the doc yesterday afternoon. Nothing broken, no permanent damage, no need for surgery. Of course that bad news is that I still have this incredible pain every time I stand up, walk, put any pressure on my leg or touch it. I wish there WAS something wrong so they could treat it and it would go away!! In the long run though, I know it's better this way. Time and rest will heal it and make it better. Thanks to all of you for your well wishes and cheer. It makes going through this a little bit easier.

You can see in the photo, most of the bit bruising and swelling is going away, but the redness on my shin is getting worse, and that is where the pain seems to radiate from. I'm sure that will become a nasty looking bruise then start going away as well... as for the scars on my knee... those are from when I was about 6 or 7 and I fell on our stone patio. Ripped it right open. I was always a tomboy and have all kinds of scars to prove it!!! LOL!! Thanks again guys for making me smile!!

Don't forget to post pics of your legs when you're better, and periodically thereafter. Us old guys need it.

And squirt a little bleach on that gunk on the shower door. It looks like it's alive. Us old clean guys need that too.

    1. To those of us born in the 1940's you are virtually jail bait.
    2. Those who:

Ride all night to go to a motorcycle race
    Get sideswipped on the return
Stop for a burger before going to the ER
Ride all day w/ the injuries to get home
    Laugh about it
Say that it was all worth it

will surely stay (in the words of Bob Dylan) "Forever Young".

Well... When you put it THAT way Mestoo... :). That is actually very cooll... Somehow poetic. I definitely hope to still be riding well into my 70s and 80s if I make it that far... And I hope to still be having as much fun!!

Have you tried soaking in the tub with Epsom Salts? When I mentioned how "bruises were the worst" in an earlier reply, it was in reference to dealing with them a lot in an earlier life. I used to routinely bruise my shins and insteps in competition, and they were amazingly painful...

Anyway, Epsom Salts really do work well to take the edge off. Just FWIW.

OMG i guess i have been a bit out of the loop. VFRCHICK i am soo sorry to hear about the accident. I admit i wish i had gone this year, ALMOST did. But i had decided not to for the same reasons you originally had. I am glad to see you are on the mend however. I had been just keeping my viffer cleaned and upkept due to our satans holiday type climate here. And just as i had been venturing out a little and was about to hit you up for some ride ideas i see this! Get better soon. Keep the rubber side down. And WOW, you are one hell of a woman, i have had some nasty scrapes but nothing like yours. You handled better than any GP rider i think. =)

I've been out of town (and away from computers) for a couple of weeks, and just saw this thread. I am HELLA GLAD you weren't hurt worse Karen. You are one tough lady! Hope you heal quickly and completely.

Sorry to hear of your off. Get well soon. Be careful of infection. If the skin around the ankle or shin gets shiny or red. Chances are there is an infection and they hurt and slow down healing. Doesnt even need to be a cut on the skin, just trauma.

Thanks guys for your advice, thoughts and well wishes!! I thought I'd finally post some pics of the damage to the bike. Surprisingly not much. The worst part was the rear brake lever getting sheared off, but I really think that may be part of what saved me from hitting the pavement. The guy's bumper came off, so I'm guessing my brake lever got stuck in his bumper and ripped it off, but for the split second my brake lever was stuck, it kept me stuck to the car instead of just pushing me all the way over...????

Here's the passenger peg and bracket with tire rubber on it. The passenger peg itself is bent into the bracket further than it should be and it looks like the underside there that is exposed got ground down/morphed.

Some white paint that got rubbed off onto the bracket
    [IMG]

A little paint and some scratches on the rear fairing. Some of the scratches were there already from a slow drop, but more caused by someone else spells "New Plastics"!

Hmmmm.... I think there should be something in front of that footpeg... what's missing junior?

Paint from the car got on my pipe... not sure what part of the car got THAT far into the bike!!

    Scratches on the crank cover
    [IMG]

Some scratches on the front plastic

Just waiting now for peeps to come and do inspections/estimate to get money for repairs, but it's rideable. As stated, I rode it back in this condition from CA (400 miles) and rode it to work 3 days after that and then that Saturday til the pain in my leg started rearing its ugly head. I hope to be back on 'er next week, even if she's not fixed yet.

I absolutely agree with this; be careful. If the swelling doesn't go down you may run into other issue like what I'm dealing with now. The swelling may become PERMANENT if the infection is not killed off! Get better soon!

Judging by these pics, you couldnt get that close a shave with a blade. The fates have spared you.

Wowie Karen. You are hardcore! :chaingun: Rode her all the way home. Glad to see the damage doesnt LOOK too severe. But speaking from experience, i hope the person(s) inspecting the damage will make sire the pipes werent too tweaked and there is no real frame damage. :pray2: Get better. Dont let that infection go unchecked, i dont think any of us really wants to figure out a mod to let you ride with one leg.

Update: Leg is MUCH better after tons of ice and physical therapy. While I still have soreness and stiffness, I can finally walk without limping too badly. Took the bike out last night and it hurts a little picking up my leg to put it on the foot peg, but I can ride. Rode to work today and it looks like my truck will be back to just sitting in the garage for days on end again!!! So happy!!! Recovery in just under a month!! Woo-hooooooo!!!

Thanks for the update on your leg.
