I'm looking for better wind protection on my 4th gen. I'm 6'1" and the buffeting and wind noise make me want to quit riding. Currently I have the stock screen. Maybe I'm getting old (O.K. I am...) but I don't remember my Superhawk or old FZR's having anywhere near this much buffeting and noise. I ride with a proper fitting RF1000 and earplugs if I'm going to be going further than a few miles.

The wind blast catches ne right a chin level so most of the noise comes under my helmet. I've ordered a windjammer and I'm hoping it will help but I'm looking for the "ultimate solution" by using the windjammer and a taller screen.

I'm looking for feedback on both the ebay DB screens ($35ish) and the ZG touring screen ($90ish). The ebay screens seem to be nearly as tall as the ZG screen but maybe it's just the angle of the pictures. Has anyone tried both?

Oh, I have searched and looked at the MRA Vario screens... too much $$$ for me.

Be interesting how this thread pans out, I recently installed a Puig DB screen on my 5th Gen was surprised how much I noticed wind blast on my shoulders until I realised it was because I no longer had airflow hitting my Helmet. Still trying to work out if I like it or not will wait until my first sustained wet ride to work it out.

I bought an inexpensive DB type screen from ebay for my 954. It lasted about a month before it cracked. The edge at the top of the screen was not smooth.

With the knock off stuff sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

I had good results with ebay levers. Got burned bad on ebay (Hong Kong) fairings.

I managed to get a Touring Screen for my 4th Gen and it made a huge difference over stock.

Not soo much wind hitting my upper body at highway/freeway speeds.

When I tuck-in it's like theres no wind at all.

    (mind you i'm 5'9")

I went for the MRA Vario on my 4th gen... big improvement over stocker but didn't do what I'd hoped (make occasional riding with an open face tolerable.)

So I fabbed my own, larger movable lip/airfoil for the MRA from tinted polycarbonate.
Looks like shite in the full 'up' position (my bro' calls it "full-dork"), and it does help but... still not what I'd hoped for.

I bought my '96 VFR because of all the references to it being a great sport tourer.
I suppose it is if you don't mind traveling all day in Summer heat trapped inside a full face with your 'nads smacking the tank at every bump and simultaneously getting a wedgie.:frown:

I love the looks, size and power, fits my 5'9", 175lb. nicely, but I'm finding the ergo's too 'sport' for all day rides: ass too high, wrists too low (with risers) AND insufficient upper body wind deflection at speed.

I'm disappointed after all the preening and grooming done on my purchase. Still have plans to attempt further alterations trying to achieve more ride civility, like sending the stock seat out for a flattened re-contour... hope it doesn't end up being an ass-buster long term, but that might be preferable to having my jeans yanked up my crack within minutes of heading out anyway.

:tape2:So, forgive the rant (whine?), but if anyone has a wind screen suggestion that offers genuine improvement, I'd be interested too.:clap2:

I got an eBay DB knockoff, and it was a poor fit at best. It was also trashed in my recent low side, and replaced with a stock-style smoked screen from Stosh.

I liked the look of it, but it was not much of an improvement over the OEM screen.

Be VERY careful buying the screens from asian ebay sellers, I bought one from t1concepts and the screen is rubbish. It does not even fit and has huge gaps at the mirror and side mounts :frown:
The screen is quite thin compared to stock.
    Hope this helps.

I decided to try to "DCDB" screen. I couldn't pass it up for the price. I did get it from a US seller with a good feedback score so hopefully it will be decent. Like all things out of China "you never know what you're going to get". I should have it by this weekend to try. I'll post up results.

On a side note I also got a windjammer for my helmet and the wind noise is much better. I still think this RF1000 is the noisiest helmet I've ever worn an I will never buy another Shoei again. If the DCDB helps with the buffetting I might actually be able to stand to ride this bike. Otherwise it will be for sale soon and I'm getting the FZ6 I originally wanted.

    Dubious Chinese Double Bubble...

I got it and installed it today. With a little "persuasion" and some trimming of the mounting holes it fits, but not great. All in all I'm not terribly impressed. I guess I got what I paid for since it was less than 1/2 the price of the ZG screen and probably taller.

This thing is HUGE! I got a clean one so it doesn't look so gaudy at first glance but damn... I have my doubts as to how well it will hold up, but time will tell. I might even hack it up to make my own MRA style screen out if it and the stocker.

I does help considerably with the buffeting and the windjammer cut down on thwe wind noise quite a bit. With earplugs in I can hear myself think and now I can actually hold my head still at 85mph.

I got a Chinese DB last year, popped right in, no prob. It eased the breeze hitting my helmet, but I'm a freakish 6'7" and unless I stuck a windshield off a Peterbuilt on it, my noggin's going to catch air. In defense of my '97 steed, it's one of the very few bikes I'm comfortable on. Do they make a tall touring screen for 4th gens?

Good luck & be safe on whatever you ride...

I have a sorta ok shaped Touring Screen in my storage unit along with the OE screen.

Next time I head over, I'll take some pictures for comparison.

here's how it looks on the bike:
