Has anyone done this before? Looking at the wiring diagram it seems like one should be able to wire two 12V outlets to that socket (I may be wrong about that - this was a first glance type of assessment.) Can one buy the male end of that 4-prong plug and wire their own stuff into the existing harness through it or would I have to get out the wire cutters and eliminate the plug altogether? I'd like to power a gps and an iPod at the same time without getting too crazy with wiring harness modifications...
stick a meter to it.... if you have power to them as two sets your golden... I am not sure about the 3rd gen but it may be that one lead will be constant power, one will be switched to turn the clock "off" one ground not sure what the fourth would be for...
One of the leads is is always going to be powered (clock) and the other will be switched (lighting). The clock fuse should be empty and would be a good source, as long as you don't forget it and drain the battery. I wouldn't use the other as it could overload the light cct if the draw is too great. Searching for the matching plug will probably not be worth the effort.
I go for the tail (running) light circuit for accessories. Plenty of juice and it's switched by the key. So you never have to worry about your gadgets running down your battery because you forgot to unplug, or turn of your gadgets manually.
