Just picked up a1994 VFR750F in absolutely brilliant condition, there is literally not a scratch on it. Found it about an hour away, seller was very nice and threw in a whole bunch of extras. It has a Vance & Hines slip-on, new tires, and the first owner completely went through the electrical system; aftermarket reg/rec the size of my fist with a fan attached, new wiring harness, and a voltmeter added to the dash. At 23, I'm the youngest owner by almost half, and this bike's lucky to have had two previous owners who did all the required maintenance. I really can't get enough of this thing, I'd been after one for a while and it really is everything I could want in a motorcycle. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Very, very nice. It's very hard to find older bikes in that kind of shape. What kind of mileage does it have? It looks pretty low.

It passed 23k while I was riding home. As far as I know, all the scheduled maintenance has been done, and the previous owner changed the oil every 6 months or so regardless of mileage. It makes a little more valve noise than I expected, but then again I've never ridden a 4-cylinder before. That's normal, right?

Welcome, that's a magic bike you got there. Remember the gear driven cams have quite a distinctive whine, which may be the noise you are talking about? Otherwise, at 23K it should have had the valve clearance checked, but I'd be surprised if this wasn't done considering the previous owners.

Beautiful. I've got a '97. Would you know what windscreen your bike has? It looks like a stock profile except for the little flip.

I know it's all subjective but I kind of like the look of the stock mirrors he has on there. They have character and seem to fit the era of the bike. The ones you're suggesting are nice too but they look like ... well ... mirrors. In other words, they're rather generic. No offense intended. I realize I'm probably in the minority with this one but I say keep the stock mirrors!

I think it might be a Lockhart-Philips screen. The owner gave me the clear stock one in a L-P box, from another windscreen, so I'm assuming that's the one. I like it a lot, the lip keeps the air flowing at just the right height to hold me up on the highway without getting too loud.

I don't really mind the stock mirrors, the rubber covers will sometimes slip off their holders which is annoying, but I don't feel the need to replace them.

And the third-gen next to it is my friend's, either the stator or reg/rec are fried and he's putting off replacing them. I almost bought it off him, but found this one for just a little more without any scratches and with everything working, so that wasn't a hard decision;)

Well, she was fun while she lasted...got SMIDSY-ed last Thursday by a driver who thought the road I was on was a one-way and didn't bother to look in my direction before pulling across the road. No time at all to react, and the front and left fairings, headlights, and dash are completely destroyed. Luckily, her insurance has already accepted liability and will be either repairing or totaling out the bike, so hopefully I'll be up and riding again soon. And much more important, I'm ok, just a bruised ankle and sore shoulder to show for my first (hopefully last) motorcycle accident.

Wow - that sucks man. But glad you are all right. As the saying goes, you can always replace a bike.

By the way, what does SMIDSY stand for? I understand what happened, but can't put it together.

"Sorry Man, I Didn't See You." Standard cager response after a bike/rider have ended up on their hood. It definitely hurts that I only had the bike a month before it got totaled, but I'm hoping to get enough on the insurance settlement to buy a similar one, maybe even a 5th-gen.

Sorry again, but sounds like you got the right attitude about it. Besides, if you get a 5th Gen, anyone will tell you that's the best VFR ever. Just ask me.

I will admit that the prospect of not having to deal with carburators is quite appealing, especially in the colder months. Can't really decide which bike's styling I like better, but I can tell you I love the sound and character of the 750's engine, hard to top for sure. How does the handling compare?

Well in all seriousness, I've never rode the 4th gen to be able to compare, although I'm sure someone else on here can chime in with the differences.

The 5th Gen definitely has some suspension issues. I'm on the large size at 6'2 and 240#. While I spent the first 3000 miles or so on 'softer" suspension settings, I've since cranked the front down and the rear is on click 4 or 5 out of 7 (meaning I have stock suspension front and rear). Sure, I don't have any chicken strips, but that doesn't mean shit in the real world. I can feel the dive in the nose when breaking, or how it gets a little loose in the turns, and I have no doubt that's tied to my suspension.

If you have the cash to invest in aftermarket suspension, its quite possible that's the best money you could spend on a 5th Gen. Racetech and Ohlins come to mind, but there are obviously plenty of others out there.

I have a buddy with a 5th gen and have ridden it a few times. The biggest difference I found was his bike feels somewhat lighter and turns in a little quicker. Otherwise the comfort is the same and I personally like the sound and styling of a 4th gen better...

Bummer to read about your bike, it was beautiful. Also glad to hear you're alright. I too suffered the same fate this past June. I was riding my beloved 1996 CBR 600F3(RIP) and got cut off. I received 4 pins and a plate in my arm. I bought the CBR for $1900 and the insurance company is paying my $3000. VFR time I say, I'm planning on getting a bike just like your fallen VFR, a 1997 VFR 750. I hope you find a great replacement!
