Are Gen Mar risers necessary

I was looking at the extra room above the clip ons and I am curious if there is a need to even install gen mar risers. I could just slide the clip on up and leave a gap on the clip ons. Is there a safety issue created by leaving the risers off?

They are not needed. Been riding several years like this. When I did my track day I slid them down for a lower position. My front end is dropped about 5mm also which gives a little more room for adjustment... Just square em up good and tight.
