I'm looking for a rear seat cowl in Italian Red for my 1999 VFR800. Has anyone purchased one of these repro covers, and if so, how is the paint match?

The ad says the color is not a perfect match.

Does anyone have an extra factory original cover that they would like to sell to me?

It's not a perfect match...mine is slightly more orange/red than pure red...most (non motorcycle) folks don't notice it until I point it out.

Most fische I've seen from different sites says the plastics come painted red, BUT I've read that even OEM painted plastics may not match your existing plastics even if your bike has never had the wrath of the sun on it.

Red is one colour that is really prone to fading. If you want as close as match as possible, your better off getting the paint made up.
Also, depending on how many layers of clear coat you do, can also affect the finished colour.

Sounds like I should just buy one and have it painted to match. How good is Colorite's Italian Red? I need to do some minor touchups as well.

Sure would be nice for manufactures to release info on their paint ingredients and who they use.
