If you want to really ruin your day just look for the video. I can't stop thinking about it.

Found it and posted it elsewhere... got spanked for that so I won't do it again.
Unintended bad taste, definitely bad judgment on my part... I feel sad for the loss this means to many.

Very sad news, Marco Simoncelli was a great rider who always made the race more exciting no matter who he was racing against. :frown:

    RIP Marco.
A fearless rider. He got on the podium last race in Australia!
Pray for his soul. Pray for the family he leaves behind.

on a related note, Colin is fine. He got a shoulder injury but he was walking around the crash.

Colin and valentino could do nada in that situation. so sad.

Although it is sad and unfortunate, racers know the risk more than anyone else, at least he died doing what he loved! I feel sad for his family and those close to him, as they will be the ones who will be dealing with life without him. I just hope that Edwards and Rossi do not get overridden with guilt, they may not have intentionally ran into him, but knowing that you were involved with someone's injuries can really mess with your head. A lot of soldiers suffer from survivors guilt, and sometimes that takes them on a downward spiral ruining even more lives.

Godspeed Marco! You will be missed.

I just watched the feed on Speed. I sat with a knot in my throat and stomache the entire time, even though I saw the video this morning.

Its funny how the death of someone you dont even know can really touch you. It has happened twice recently, most recently with the death of a different Moto forum member. The Moto GP community was dealt another blow with the death of Marco Simoncelli today in Sepang. While he was only my 3rd favorite rider, there was always something about him that captivated me, and forced me to root for him. Whether it was his lanky "gorilla on a tricycle"-esqe hunch, his brass and at times bold racing style, or his unwillingness to back down from criticism of said racing style. There was something special about him, he had a certain style on a bike that seperated him from other cookie cutter European riders. And he had that racing fire in him which kept him on the edge at all times. It was either succeed or leave it in pieces. It was that edge and a "right place, wrong time" moment that ended his life. I will dearly miss his afro, goofy italian accent, and talent in the GP paddock. He was a star to be reconed with in the coming years. Rip Marco, Rip Simo, Rip Super Sic....

First a great Indy car racer Dan Wheldon, and now Marco. Rest in peace to you both.

    Shocking.

I'm still amazed that Valentino was able to ride that out and that Colin only suffered a dislocated shoulder. This while tragic could have ended much much worst.

damn. that sux. it looked to me from the video that maybe he was knocked unconscious then when he got hit by the other bike it popped his helmet off and broke his neck or something? it looks like he was done before it got too bad at least I guess. terrible news.

Yes, it was all said and done before the bikes even left the track. Quite a devastating crash.

He was fun to watch because of his 'win or bin it' style

A hole has been ripped in the heart of the racing community
