It seems there are a bazillion slip-on's to choose out there but, if I've measured correctly, the outside diameter of the factory mid-pipe on my VF is 2.5"

Too great a diameter to allow me to carefully cut the existing cans off and mount a flanged aftermarket can as I can't find an effing mfr. that has a product with a male inlet flange (pardon?) of that diameter...they all seem to be 2"- to 2.25"

I'd love to hear from any VFR owners who can bring insight in personal experience having properly fit raspy new cans ready to accept the larger diameter. Thanks.

Can't you have the pipe reduced? I thought they had those machines.

Can you take a picture of the Mounting points for your cans and the area where the muffler pipe meets the rest of the exhaust?

I have 2 Brand New, never used Mint WOLF mufflers that might be for a VF1000

Yessir! Crossing my fingers that they'd be a fit! Need 'em!
You'll notice that the mid-pipe has a straight section of about 2" in length just prior to meting the canister. was hoping to zip the cans off just before the weld in order to keep as much original pipe as possible and in effort to create a tidier fit.

If you think we might have a match to some extent, please feel free to PM me with a pic. Thanks!

In my garage I have an exhaust system from a RC51 with the flanges on it. I could be persuaded to send you the whole system so you can cut off the flanges for welding to your system and attach your own cans.

    Just an idea.

Well, thanks, Larry...I have option on a similar set but haven't jumped yet as I have concern that I'd have to do a bafflectomy on them or they'd probably be as quiet as the factory units that I have.

You have mid-pipes & all? What $ were you thinking?

Update this post with what you do. I'm very curious and there isn't much on the net about updating/upgrading the exhaust on our VFKR's. I'm considering just getting a set of can for a Ducati or RC51 or Tuono and having custom mid-pipes made for them from the collector. It might be the easiest way. Plus, I don't really want to cut or hack on the system I have on it now. You never know when you might want the originals back.

Exactly what I was thinking, Smack. As the bike gets older and maybe a little more valuable, it seems to make sense to keep as much original on it as possible, in the event that you might want to reverse-mod down the road.

this is something that greatly interests me as well, however i have the skill and tools to build my own, time and money and my nature often make building things myself a long and overly complicated/expensive proposition!

what would be a period correct set of cans for these bikes? this is a concern for me as keeping the bike close to stock (limited period correct mods are OK) for insurance purposes is sort of mandatory.

building a $3k one-off 316SS double slip ehxaust with springclips is something i'd like to avoid on a $2k bike!

lmao...Good thinking...To my mind, period-correct style reads of similar scale & simpler material (no 6" long, alien-head shaped, carbon fibre units for this guy)
So far the F-1's seem to tweak me best...The Jama units look, I dunno...cheap?

If I can't manage to find the right set, my fall back might well just be factory take-offs from a Super Hawk or RC-51 as they're simple if not a little big.

How cool is that sepia toned pic! I bet someone in the background was wearing a brown & yellow checkered dress shirt with cowboy styled pockets and pearl buttons!
