    Hey guys

My o7 interceptor makes a popping noise. just read past posts about this and seems this is normal?

Also my 07 now has 1200 miles on it. Had fresh Amsoil change a few hundred ago. Anything else you guys would recommend as "First Service"?

    Thanks

At five years of age I would consider changing all fluids. Antifreeze and brake fluid. Check all bolts particularly the side stand. Follow the handbbok that came with the bike and download the factory manual from this site. Happy reading. You don't describe when the "popping" occurs or the area from where you hear the noise. It may be the "flapper" valve. Since flappers were popular only in the twenties and thirties most folks throw them away. These days they are part of the emissions system. Eccos keep them, egos discard them:frown: Lots of info here about removing things....

My 06 was making a popping noise when taking off from a stop. Did a lot of research and found this link regrading the flapper valve. PAIR and Flapper mod, with bonus snorkel mod for VFR . I made these adjustments last week, I did not make the snorkle adjustment as I did not want the extra sound.

I have to say this mod did more than correct the popping sound. The common choppiness of the throttle at parking lot speeds is now gone as well and has a very smooth response all the way through.

    Thanks for the response.

Toe Cutter..the popping noise is when I accelerate from stop.

vfr2k2..all the fluids except the brake fluids were changed at 875 miles.

Anyone know where I can download the shop manual online for free?

The "flapper" is located on the front left side of the airbox. Much discussion this on this and other sites. "depairing and deflappering". Some say it makes miraculous improvements. Some not so much and others say thay have not found any improvement. Try it, you might like it. There is always the "legal" issue of modifying emmision controls. Totally up to you of course..... For use on the track....these mods along with others are likely beneficial and prudent..... There are many ways to look at it. Ever hear about the guy who says the car runs better after a good wash.

Well, I just did the paring solenoid valve and the flapper, and WHAT a difference! I left the snorkel in place because I too didn't not want it any louder. Unbelieveable how much smoother the throttle response is below 20-24 mph. Before it was almost impossible to ride this smoothly at parking lot speeds and now it like it just found another 25 lbs. of torque below 3K.

Takes 15-20 minutes including a peek at the air filter element and a little cleaning/dusting while the tank is up.
