yeah, 200 is a bit too much for a st, even if more sporty AND naked.. im not so much of a speed freak really - more accel, so i operate within the 0-150 98% of the time :) many mountains / hills here (unlike jb!!) so yeah, and that south easter now!! i pop in and out of town on de waal drive many times and its still such a fantastic drive every single time. u almost feel like u can reach out and touch table mountain on your left (going in!), while u have the mother city, waterfront and miles of blue ocean and beach on your right. Its superb! Need to pop on last few bits then a test drive round the block a few times! tick tock tick tock - cant wait!! strapped for $$ till month end so pulled indicators, batt and fuel pump from my trusty 83 vf750! funny it has a mitsubishi pump - that standard? works perfect. man oem parts from back then are solid!!

    oh, vote shtoinky for president!!

Let us hear your comments comparing your '83 to the '86/'87 when you finally have it sorted, please.

Great job on that petrol tank !

will do - having starting issues. did a serious (well...) clean up of carbs 2nd time round, checking float levels etc.. all passages seem clear, turned out stop screws 2 turns each as I flush those passages too, but it struggles. Before this strip down it appeared cyl 1 header wasnt warming up that much, now it seems 2 isnt - feel like circle syndrome here. Can i trim the coil wires to give fresh connectionis?

hope its not more serious! when she does get going she scream smoothly for sure. . thats why i thought it might be carb blockage as the headers werent warming up on 1, now 2 - think the plug wires might be loose - they are bronze on the inside (not chalked up), and i have 3 spare coils so should manage. I doubt its the coils tho - they are pretty solid despite abuse etc... really want to get engine going so i can ride it!! keep u chaps posted, and yeah - ill get back once ive ridden her - different position, already feels smaller than vf/83..

yeah, what a mission! not to mention almost severing my arm (not reaaally...but it was possible!) with a large grinder trying to remove that blinking centre stand! it was insane!! Actually had to cut the frame on both sides to release the tension on the shaft, @ least they can be welded up and machines flat again, i made them where there wd be minimal stress on the stand during operation..

SOOO chuffed shes running!! What a relief! I must be honest I have yet to find a vid that does the sound of these guys justice, not too mention my own one shot on my phone - sounds like a rc helicopter, soon as shes done and ive wiped off the last polish spot ill go take some sexy pics under the bridge nearby and also get some decent equipment and make some proper recording for all the world to see!! drive bys, etc...

front end is a bit of a hack but its ll i got @ the mo - $$ only comin in next month, then ill purchase something nice from another bike - going naked requires a bit of mathemechanics in the front there, esp with fork clearance etc..

i noticed when locked right the handle bar touches the tank?? but left side is fine, bent perhaps? that wd tie in with the tank damage on the right too from the prev owners fall.. yes the handle bar downward bolts are in the proper gaps in the top stanchion / clamp..

** Lastly b4 getting coffee and finishing this baby off - my 82 vf750 sounds BOLLOCKS! like really deep, throaty "BOP BOP BOP" on idle - chicks really dig it man!! (silly comparison I know) but alot of my female friends really dig it (and guys buds as well of course)... wonder what the rc24 will sound like - I REALLY want the same sound, or better! vf has 'trashy' (coined by some) cowley on it but it really sounds awesome, is that more can or more motor? not good with exhausts till theyre on the machine :) .. both are 4-2-1, v twins, could the crank rotation / firing affect the sound perhaps? I know these 2 bikes have diff crank setups.. any comments here??

    laters!

SOOOOO - bike is running.. will upload more pics tonight.. Head steering still pivots over bump - will have to dissassemble bearings and redo the lot.. are tapered easy as popping them in?

Squrrelman - compared to the vf750, huge difference! the power is unbelievable. with the vf i tend to feel the power coming out a bit later, tho its rated at about 20-30 bhp less afaik. the vfr is unreal compared. Pulls like a banshee! The power comes thru from low down and doesnt stop till redline. Im amazed at how well she runs, even though i unscrewed the air screw for cleaning and turned them all out exactly 2 (or 2 & 1/2) turns. Starts perfectly as well.. only idles well after warming up though as i set that hot with lights on anyway. what a machine is all i can say.. the power is unreal on this thing. Taking it a bit easy now, just getting used tot he feel / suspension etc but its a BLAST!!!

Keep u guys posted - ill be replacing the front end sometime when i have $$, thats gonna be tricky.. just stuck what I had together for the moment. its def solid but not a 100% clean assembley / look -

    pics to follow -
