Go! Go! Moral support go! You guys gonna turn into some moooonstars
I was 6'0" 245-250 in highschool, and managed to drop to 190 in 6-8 months just by not eating/drinking sugar. And I walked around a little more. Oh, and acupuncture, but that didn't really have an effect on weight loss.
Are you all cutting sugar/HFCS? What are the main points for P90X ?
I got "Perfect Pushup" but have yet to try one single pushup lol.

Peet - go to Reg71's blog for a good overview of P90X.

I felt the same way elwray. I can still barely do diamonds but I've probably trippled my pushup count over 2 months. I can almost keep up with the AB Ripper now.

In 2008 I decided to give up Coke because of the HFCS in it. I loved Coke and had been drinking 2-3 every day which I had scaled down to 1, but even then I knew it had to go. I was working out and while perhaps my strength was ok, my weight was at an all time high of 225 lbs. Without changing anything else outside of not drinking Coke ( I switched to Coke Zero, I eventually got used to the taste - still can't stand normal Diet Drinks ) I lost 20 lbs over a few months. It was then I realized diet was as if not more important than your fitness routine. So now I am in the 205-210 range ( it fluctuates ) and while running 10-15 miles per week and lifting weights, haven't been able to push below. I had switched to whole wheat only bread, but am now trying to ween myself off bread all together to see if that helps.

On another note, this past Sunday I finished my first Duathlon. A 2 mile trail run, followed by an 11 mile mountain bike ( grueling single track ) ride followed by a 5k run. I wanted to stop several times as cramps set in, but before the race I made sure to tell a lot of people I was doing the race. I knew they would ask me how I did and I did not want to tell them I did not finish. Telling people your goals is a good way to stay motivated!

I gave up coke but found the withdrawals to be unacceptable... I didn't know it had HFCS in it; mine is usually cut with baking soda

Good for you barleymasher! Congrats on the Duathalon!! I cut out regular soda a while back and feel like it stopped my weight gain a little... but the food was more of the problem.

Diet diary was the key for me. Kept a diary of everything I ate for a month. Best way to find how how little choices add up by the end of the day. 2% v 1% milk, cream in the coffee, baked Lays at Subway v Sun Chips, etc....

Well I don't consume a lot of dairy... don't drink milk, take my coffee like I like my women (cold, stale, and bitter), but man oh man I love cheese =D Unfortunately, it doesn't love me back... sensitive digestive tract! I've eaten soy cheese in the past which actually doesn't suck that bad if you're cooking with it or melting it on something. I'll have to go back to that.

Subway is always tough I feel like I go in there with good intentions for healthy lunch, but end up with something entirely more unhealthy than I planned.... I do always avoid the regular potato chips though. .. . Sun chips or baked Lays....

Morning is hardest for me. I need to wake up early so I can make breakfast. I've got about 4 dozen eggs fresh from the chicken coop; egg white omlettes are healthy and fast and easy... but that extra 20 min is hard to convince myself of when I'm hitting snooze.... then the office vending machine tempts me with Drake's Funny Bones cakes....

    Dusting off the old thread....

So with P90X, I think I lost close to 15lbs. I ended up with my shoulder giving me too much trouble and didn't keep up with it. Wife got preggers and we packed the pounds back on. Wife gives birth and most of the lbs dropped off her but we're keeping the breasts for now.

I'm still trying to give birth with the expectation that the weight will fall off me too but I only drop about a pound or so each time and by the end of the day, it's right back on.

So, I found a smart phone app (also on PC) called Free Calorie Counter, Diet & Exercise Journal | MyFitnessPal.com

Completely free app and hasn't asked for a dime. Asks a couple questions to get started like age, weight, gender, and type of job you do so that it can guestimate how much calories you probably require to maintain.

Then it asks your goals; how much weight you'd like to loose, how much per week, how often do you intend to work out. Calculates a base calorie intake goal.

Here's where it gets easy; whenever I go to eat something, I just have to use the smart phone camera to scan the barcode on the product and tell the app how many servings I'm eating. It automatically keeps record of the foods breakdown (calories, fat, sugar, protein, sodium, vitamins, etc) and matches it to my goal. If there is no barcode, you can quickly search the database using keywords. Exorcising earns me more calories. Running the elliptical machine in the basement, I just key in the time and calories burned off the machine to offset the peanut butter sandwich. Walking the dog for 30 minutes brisk pace roughly 180 calories etc...

started at 244 a month ago - 236 today and still going.

Well, since I sold the VFR and only have the bagger now, I decided to turn into a fat mushy biker dude. I guess I didn't really decide to do that, but either way that's what happened.

Good timing on reviving the thread, I just started keeping track of my food with a food diary on my Android as well. Calorie Counter by Fatsecret. I'll check out the one you posted, it looks nice as well. I love the barcode scanner in Calorie Counter, and the huge database of popular restaurant foods. It's got a nice full-featured website behind it with a pleasant interface too, if you prefer tracking via the computer.

I'm at about 205 lbs now. Would love to get down into the neighborhood of 180 lbs. My biggest roadblock is how much I tend to eat. I don't even think about what I'm eating until after I'm done... every meal ends up with me thinking, "oh no, I shouldn't have done that."

Right on - I usually try to input my meal before I eat.

Now that is such a simple and fantastic idea I never would have thought of it myself. I'll try that to keep myself thinking about what's going in before it actually does!

Well, a couple of years ago I was as fit as all get out, doing weight training and kickboxing four times weekly. Then I had to have shoulder surgery and the surgeon banned me from all sports for "up to two years".
So I lost 12kg of muscle and gained 12kg of fat... : (

I have fiiiiiinally been able to start training again, thankfully. Shifting the fat will be the toughest part. - I despise cardio training.

I currently weigh 97kg. I'll probably get down to around the 90 mark, trading fat for muscle.

I have found that one of the positives of being 210+ is that it's a lot easier to get the bike up on it's centre stand! ; )
