How can I get my hands on a solo seat cowl? Is the airtech version any good?

Great question!!! I've been looking for on myself. I found a white one (1993) in Cali. on craigslist and the guy wanted $150 for it and wouldn't budge. I'm considering the airtech version in the next few months if I can't find a decent one on the eastern half of the US.

If you find one you have to jump on it and choke off what is being asked for it. It is the nature of the beast. I lucked oot and scored a cherry gen 2 for cheap as the guy thought it was just an old motorcycle part but that is rare and gen 3 cowls are even harder to locate than gen 2 in my opinion.

What about broken or cracked tabs. What is the best way to repair? Is there anyway to convert tabs to aluminum?

I had a gen 3 that came with the seat cowl. someone had riveted aluminum tabs onto it and then painted the rivets with color matched paint. looked good enough

I made some aluminum tabs for Cundalini's gen3 three and secured them with flush chrome allen bolts, turned oot nice and only one of us would know that it was not factory. You can PM him and tell him to send you a pic.

Airtech seem like the only solution. Bummer.

I got one for my red 4th gen for $25 on eBay. great condition except the two tabs in the back were broken. still think it was a steal for that price. I'm about to cut a credit card and try to gorilla glue them for the back tabs.

I just bought one that is new but has some damage due to stuff being stacked on it for $50 aussie dollars including postage. Stumbled onto it on ebay in Italy. Have a friend that used to make moulds for fiberglass so am thinking of using it for a mould and trying to make a carbon version.

If you can catch me, you can touch mine but you can't take it home with you.

BTW 90-93 seat cowls were optional items and were I think about a hundred bucks USD. Check the fitment if ya got an aftermarket seat or even a stocker seat if you've been hauling a plumper around for awhile.

I got the airtech solo cowl and was relatively happy. Fitment was good, was a little flimsy for my liking but that was solved quickly with another lay of glass by me. Other than that no complaints.

Bought one off ebay for my '97 for $25, shipped. Had a broken tab, I tried glueing an aluminum tab on but the glue failed pretty fast. I like the Flush allen bolts idea. Will try that next. I watched ebay for 6 months and jumped on it. What I still need tho is grab handles! Seem to be rare as rhino milk...

the airtech one fits well assuming you dont have a corbin. I posted a few pics of mine. With the stock seat it should be just fine and the tabs are strong. With the Corbin, I had to cut the tabs and epoxied a hoop of velcro to it that wraps the seat. Works, I may go with the aluminum if I decide to do it again

I have the airtech on mine with Corbin seat. You make a great point, the way around it is to peel the back part of the seat up and trim down the foam and re-attach after fit mention is good ou should have no problems. You may need to slightly trim the fwd tabs to get clearance but that was a minor problem.

Correct, shaving the tail down a hair would get it as well. I took the opportunity to modify mine to leave my handles out too, which hides the 1/8" lift at the tail of the cowl

Curious if my Corbin lady gun fighter seat would be an issue, I may be onto a source out of Canada, through a honda dealership.

I also have the lady gunfighter seat, fits with not much problem. I trimmed a little bit of foam of the top back then reattathced the leather. If you find a source In Canada theat would be ideal, I'm not super happy with the airtech one I have, gel coat is cracking under paint after less than a season.
