    Hi all,

just picked up a 1991 VFR 750. It's my second Viffer, the first was a well ridden 5th gen, and as soon as I loaded it on the truck, I regret it. This 1991 is a two owner bike, complete, red and gorgeous!

I am going to post pics. She's in the garage for now. Needs a major clean up and polish. Brakes are a bit sticky, but, may get better with use. Has a Yoshimura slip on that I don't think belongs on it. Hangs at an odd angle. Once the warm weather hits, I'll see if I can rectify that. Just a few weird things:

    1. Has a VDO analog clock in the left side fairing. According to internet research, it was a European option. I hate it. Anyone interested in trading for a non-clock fairing, even up for the cost of shipping? Or, does anyone have a decent 3rd gen front fairing they want to part with?

    2. It has an odd plastic "aero" piece on the kickstand. I have never seen one like this before.

    3. Does not appear to have been down, plenty of power, no odd noises etc...(except for that constant whine while the engine runs!!!LOL)

    4. New Dunlop Sportmax on the bike, front is about 75%...will make the season...

I bought it cheap, clean title, for...wait for it...

    600.00!

It has 31,000 on it. I am waiting for nice weather here in PA for a nice run to see what needs to be addressed.

Anyone have any thoughts? I know what to look for, but, is there anything I can be forewarned about?

Does anyone know if fourth gen plastic is a direct bolt on? I like the look of it a bit more.

I would also like to source correct decals for the lower fairing...PO changed them to an aftermarket "Intercepter" script...FUGLY as all hell...

Thanks guys...this board has been a wealth of information...so glad I found it.

    Dave

Nice score!!! I bought my 83 11 years ago for $300 and had to do a full resto! I would have loved to fins a newer one just to ride everyday. I put a whopping 35 miles on mine this year. 3 kids put a damper on the riding time......sigh

    Hey 'Bird...

I sold my 5th gen because of no ride time, kids, stuff like that...had to get another one. I see you're in New Castle...fairly close I think. Maybe we could hook up on the road one day!

I would have to see how close we are. I live around an hour away from pittsburgh, butler, greenville and youngstown. The center of nowhere....... I did the restore on my bike when my oldest was a baby, sold my mustang and just finished a 94 Super Coupe (bigger back seat) lol. I have been debating on building a chopper with a v45 as I have 2 more intercepters for parts (both wrecked and not saveable.) Dunno if any parts interchange but I could hook you up if they do

Not the usual range for a lunch meetup and afternoon ride.

The plastic on the sidestand is standard for that gen, but it's also common to see them w/o it.
I don't think any of plastics are interchangeable between the 3rd and 4th gens.

    Congrats on the new wheels.

Trade out the VDO clock for a voltmeter (waterproof marine ones look factory). The Honda clock was a digital below the gauge cluster. Don't worry about the exhaust, anything can be made to look fine.

4th gen plastic will NOT fit.

Don't like that "aero" piece over the sidestand, send it to me. I'll even pay postage.

    pics required.

    First impressions. First real ride.

Ok guys, took her out for a couple mile ride today. Weather was nice. Here are my findings:

    1. Right fork seal is shot. Leaks. Ordered a seal set, and found a set of Progressive NOS springs on eBay, so, I went ahead and bought them too.

    2. Radiator cap leaks a bit. Sweet smell of anti freeze alerted me, so, ordered that too. I hope it's just the cap, not the rad itself.

    3. Decided to find a CBR929 rear shock. Bought that on the 'bay too. Might as well do it all while it's apart.

    4. Front tire is cupped and shot. I suspect the bad fork may have something to do with that. Ordering a tire tomorrow.

Credit card is smoking at this point...LOL.

    5. Exhaust needs to come off. It's not the right one for this bike. However I can cut a bit off and make it better. It also leaks at the slip on.

    6. UGLY intercepter stickers are clear coated on. Oh well, I'll live with them this year. Looks like a paint job is in order for winter. Suggestions? I like the VFR 400 paint job...gotta ask a few body men how hard it is. Maybe just a respray of the factory red, with a sticker change or two.

The good: she pulls hard through the whole power band and other than the slight exhaust leak, sounds really healthy.

    PICTURES COMING! I PROMISE!

I HAD to comment on this post. About 6 yrs ago a buddy lent me a 1995 vfr for the summer because he didn't use it much.I fell in love. Then I moved and about 3 yrs ago had a 1991 vfr (and briefly posted on this site) for a year but then had to sell it (and stopped posting). Two nights ago I bought a 1996 vfr because I just can't stay away. So for the hell of it I thought I'd hop on. And here are you guys talking about New Castle. I'm from Murrysville :) Happy riding! And congrats!!
