    My latest project was a 1993 VFR that I found that was just about left for dead. With a little time I have completed the following;

    * R1 USD Fork conversion rebuilt with Ohlins internals
    * R6 5 spoke front rim
    * 929 - Triples
    * R1 Throttle with custom motion pro cables
    * VTR1000 Clutch master conversion
    * Galfer braded clutch and brake lines
    * Woodcraft Clipons, Renthal Grips
    * 86 VFR tack and temp gauge with custom netral and low fuel light
    * Wilbers Triple Clicker Rear Shock
    * CBR body conversion with custom Belly pan and NC30 Tail section
    * 900 RR fairing stay
    * TBR Headers with custom undertail exhaust
    * Factory pro jet kit and BMC air filter
    * Tire Hugger
    * DP Racing clutch plates and springs
    * 520 DID chain conversion with Vortex Aluminum sprocket
    * Wire harness disected to only required components.
    * Smaller Battery

    It has been a fun project and if someone what to spend the time and money to make a more then adequate track bike, go for it.

    Well done! We would love to hear the story behind the bike too. Did you get a good deal? How did you acquire it and what shape was it in before you got your hands on her?

    The short version of the story is I found a posting for a 1993 VFR on Craiglist and negotiated the price of $400.00 before I saw it. I have a 1993 VFR that is in pretty nice condition and did not want to modify it or take it on the track but wanted to build a custom VFR. This was my chance and at $400.00 I could part the thing out if it was to far gone.

    It did not run, someone had hacked up the ignition switch and it had been dropped at low speed several times, most of the fairings were cracked or missing. If you look in my gallery you will see it the day I brought it home. It took me a little while to get the thing running. Once I knew I had a bike that would run (even as rough as it did at that point), I stripped it down to the point where it was a motor sitting on a milk crate and rebuilt it from that point up. I replaced or cleaned just about every bearing, bolt and nut as I put it back together.

    The whole project took me about a year to complete, working only a couple of hours in the evenings and balancing family responsibilities with hobbies. The most difficult part is taking the time to track down parts at reasonable prices.

    There is still a lot of fine tuning to do and a few parts I need to fabricate to make things a little lighter but talk is cheap so I will keep those project to myself incase I do not get to them and then there is still paint work to be done.

    After having the bike on the track I can say it is an awesome bike to ride and it is soooooo different then its "brother" my stock 1993. It has plenty of power, the sound of the V4 is awesome and it is a lot of fun. I will not make any claims about it blowing away CBR600RR or keeping up with GSXR750's, frankly, the pilot (me) is no Cassey Stoner. It is what it is an 18 year old custom built to my specs VFR that corners well and has enough power to put a big big smile on my face. I have let other people who belong to my track day group ride it and they are much more experience and faster on the track then myself and all of them have given "Mr Hyde" great reviews.

    It is what it is, why try to be anything else. Honesty does not diminish how happy and how well the bike goes for what it is.

    Here are some of the exhaust pics, instrument cluster and fairing stay

    Fantastic bike it looks like it would just rail. How hard was it to fit the cbr fairings?

    The body work is not terribly difficult to fit. Most people who have done body conversions keep the belly pan open and it gives more flexability while fitting. The upper portion of the CBR fairing is 100% unmodified with exception to a little trimming around the radiator hoses coming out of the radiator and the belly pan might have been close if I just cut the bottom out. I wanted a closed belly pan for the track and it has had about 1" added to the bottom and the custom bump outs to fit around the TBR headers. That was the most difficult part of the CBR conversion.

    The NC30 Tail section was the right width but I needed to make the filler sections around the fuel tank and frame and then sectioned the rear about 2-3 inches to fit around the exhaust properly.

    It took a little fiberglassing and some patience to let the stuff cure properly in order to move on to other steps but it fit pretty well. I also was not trying to fit the body around OEM instruments , fairing stays and controls to work, I had a clean starting point which made it a lot easier. Lots of people before me have doen the CBR conversions, I just added my own spin.

    With enough reading you will find a lot of people have done similar things to VFR's. I just duplicated what they did but put my own spin/thought into it. I am no mechanical guru.

    And "yes" I am very pleased with how it handles.

    I've been wanting to do the same thing to my 93. Do the 929 triples fit right in, or do you have to modify anything? Nice work by the way!

    The 929 triples use the same head bearing as the VFR so the triples slide right in and the forks bolt right up.

    The problem you will have is getting the spacing correct for the wheel, calipers and clearance for controls. You also need to factor in the fact the offset for the 929 triples increases the trail and you will have to adjust the suspension to get things back in line.

    I appalled you, very well done. One question I have is what was the radiator fitment with fork clearance? I had it planned to do this to a 4th gen and had forks lined up that where not Honda, all though the F4I front end would be a good set. then poff! No bike. Still have it in the back of my mind since I have done 90% of the process down to do this, one of the last things was getting the clearances up around the instrument panel figured out. again nice job. It's what Honda should have done as a second version to the VFRs not this Crossrunner thingamajig.
