im mainly interested in the givi stuff because it seems the best, but what is the mounting system it needs?
its pricey but is it worth it long term?

what is buying worthwhile for the short term (ie cheap)???
websites and brand names would help :)

Go OEM, you can get it new for about $680 from Ron Ayers. Looks the best, and is very comparable in price to Givi

I went through this last fall. The OEM bags are made by GIVI. They can be had for nearly the same price and look way better on the bike.

Will the factory hard bags mount with staintune pipes and rear fender delete? My guess would be no.

If you get the OEM or Givi, the hardwares are included.

am no expert and been bit myself trying to figure them out.

I think the OEM is Monolock (as opposed to Monokey) and requires the M5M plate along with FJ bracket system.

The old Monokey plate does not work on the FJ bracket system. But they did make a M5 plate which fits Monokey luggage and the FJ brackets.

    Confused yet?

Milk crates are great especially if they are painted to match and your next door neighbor isn't a milkman who you pissed off last week.

I went with a set of Saddleman rigid foam until I can save up to get the OEM.

You guys shouldn't be carrying that much grass around with you on your bikes.

    What's your budget?

A lot of guys go OEM out of England from David Silver Spares, Should run you about $600-650 for side bags with shipping+taxes. I went on ebayUK and found someone willing to ship to Canada I got a full 3 bag set with hardware in Silver for $1000, that included shipping and taxes.

Also your profile doesn't say where your located in Canada but in the last 2 weeks there's been two set's of side cases for $550 and $575 here in Ontario on kijiji. Keep and eye out for them, it's that time of year and people are selling off their extra stuff as the season starts.

    LOL!!

Best bags (panniers) I ever had are the BMW/Krausers. Sorry but those GIVIS look to me like they are a product of an orgy involving a space alien and a motorcycle.. For ugly clear to the bone nothing beats the Corbins.. (beaglebags?)

Had some Venturas. Super well made but I'm not keen on stuff that looks like I am hauling your next door neigbors wife.. At the ton or she is nearly..

For the big bucks. the aluminum cases are great. I am a soft luggage fan for the VFRs'.
