I want to use a ram ball to mount a Zumo to the bike. Noticed I wouldn't be able to put a ram ball on top of the clutch or brake reservoir as the set up would hit the windscreen when turned. I have heard of a stem mount and one that fits at the front of the gas tank (saw this on a 2006 so not sure if it is the same for 2000).

Can anyone point me to these options for the 2000 on the web or to others that might be out there?

    Thank you

It is the same for 5th and 6th gen. You can either use the two bolt in front of the gas tank or the stem mount. I choose stem mount, if I have to do it over I will use the tank mount for steadyness.

I used the stem mount ... wasn't thrilled with the one from RAM-Mounts because it wouldn't really hold snug. It's kind of a compression nut that fits in with friction, but the plastic they use isn't flexible enough to really stick it in there well.

Tank mount sounds like the way to go then. I assume it does not interfere with turning the steering head. Can someone point me to the correct item so I know I get the right one?

    Thanks

Got the tank mount ram ball and installed the GPS. Wired to my Fuzebox with a switched setup. Very easy except I dropped the metal sleeve that fits at the front where the tank attaches to the bike. Went down far enough into the motor that I had to remove plastic and airbox before I could see it. Extracted, refitted, everything put back together but time wasted. Missed my ride window this morning, but it's Mother's Day anyway so maybe what started as bad karma turned out to be good karma after all.

    Pics attached for those interested.

this is what i did to mount my cell phone. its just a piece of Al plate bent and milled to fit between the tank and stem. i just used the mounting bolts for the tank to secure it. i used a old cellphone holder epoxied to piece of plexi and 10-32 screws to attach it to the Al mount. simple and real sturdy. went on a long ride with it at highway speed with no worries.
