Hello everyone, I have a 2007 RWB and I love it. I dont think the exhaust is loud enough. Dont get me wrong the neighbors like it better than the cbr with the two brothers I had. Especialy at 5am when I go to work. Is there anything I can do to get more sound when I twist it up yet not wake the neighborhood? Its also got a dead spot that I have learned can be remedied with the PAIR valve trick. I have considered the mods I have read about but do I need to remap the bike? Thanks for any help.

Run a flex pipe from the exhaust and angle it toward your helmet for all the noise you can enjoy without bothering the rest of the world.

Pair valve block wont do anything off idle as the pair valve is closed at that point.

I feel your pain :) This bike is so quiet you can hear the cams over the exhaust most of the time! I was having shifting problems (I got used to using my ears as a tach on my previous bike) until I changed things up a bit.

JTG's exhaust mod sounds like what you're wanting. Basically you're just bypassing the baffles in the stock cans without gutting them. Louder than stock but nowhere near gutted cans volume (the sound is much better too; something akin to a big block v-8 with flowmasters instead of the fart-can sound you get from gutted cans). Takes a dremel w/~$12 worth of cutting wheels from Home Depot, a cordless drill w/hole saw, and a couple hours of time. Beats the shit out of $1000 staintunes, and sounds better too, having heard both.

Details over on VFRD: A New Way To Gut Your 6th Gen Exhaust - Exhaust Systems - VFR Discussion

P.S. Do yourself a favor and buy a real exhaust clamp from autozone for $3 to replace the stupid strap style OEM one. Broke in three pieces on me just from trying to take it off with a hand wrench.

The Two Bros M-2 V.A.L.E. system sounds great without being too loud.

If you simply must have a loud exhaust system, buy a Harley and put straight-through pipes on it. - You'll look like a total dickhead but it'll be loud...

Thanks for the advice. Did anything have to be changed as far as having it remapped?

Why is it that you think it needs to be loud?

No changes needed, doesn't really affect backpressure enough to affect tourque/fuel mileage significantly. I plan to put a PC-V with autotune on my bike at some point anyway, but it's run fine with the stock ecu setup also.

Why do you need Staintunes with Motad Headers on yours ?

Because the stock exhaust on the VFRs V4 sounds rubbish. Open pipes / slash cuts on the road are for idiots but there's nothing wrong with a VFR with a Fruity exhaust it adds to the flavor of what makes riding so great.

Normally I would not comment on such a thread as it stupidity at its best but the gen 6 is so quiet bone stock that I found myself going much faster than I thought I was because I could not hear the engine. Could hear the front tire over the engine the first time I rode it. Buy some quality pipes and a power commander is my 2 pennies.

I do love a good exhaust tone but not volume. The longer the ride, the less volume I care to hear.

Sweet jesus!!! Are actually asking WHY SOMEONE WOULD WANT A KICK ASS EXHAUST NOTE ON A VEHICLE?!?!?!? :chaingun:

Sound off like you have a pair for god's sake! Any serious gear head knows that a vehicle is NOT complete until it has the perfect exhaust system. What that means is up to you. If it is about nice mellow burbles at idle or a rasp on decel, who cares. Run what you feel. We do have laws about noise, so that should generally be a pretty good guideline. The psycho farting open pipes are NOT my thing, nor are they anywhere near legal.

Just recommend a nice pipe setup to the man and provide a sound clip! (GRRRRRRRR, WOOF, WOOF) :soapbox:

    Hi there,

I agree with Toe that the 5th and 6th sound very average stock and to my opinion are too soft.

There are very positive benefits to cars being able to hear you.

I am by no way saying that I suggest straight though shot-gun style pipes like harley riders but at least a pipe with a bit more bass would be of advantage.

If you just get a non standard pipe (without extractors) you will have a marked improvement in sound.

BTW - My experience is related to the 5th Gen and I assume its similar to the 6th gen (apologies if thats not the case)

am quite pleased with the volume level of the 5th gen with 6gen exhaust.

would not complain if it had a deeper note to it.

I've discovered sleepy jay walking pedestrians benefit more from a bikes Fruity exhaust when slow lane splitting in city grid lock.

motads - move exhaust gases out easier, got 'em ceramic coated
    Stintunes - looks, construction quaility

neither makes the bike noticiably louder

Fairly accurate video of the JTG mod (not mine). Note is a little less tinny in person but the volume is pretty accurately represented in relation to background noise/distance. When he walks in back of the bike at 0:40 you get the best idea what this really sounds like.

Main reason I like this mod is every aftermarket setup I've seen yet looks positively awful under the tail of this bike. Staintunes are the one exception, but I'm personally just not fond of the note they produce.

Two Bros. M-2 V.A.L.E. - A great exhaust note. Loud but not so loud that people will want to slash your tyres.

Sorry Spike you may fool someone with no clue but anyone who knows what Staintunes with Motards on a VFR sounds like is another story, not obscene but even spuds in certainly louder and much better than stock. Embrace and enjoy the truth.

So , you don't like the sewing machine sounds ? . When I wore my ear plugs with the stock pipes all I could hear was the vibrations through my butt. If you have the $ go for some after markets, I did the partial gut and really like the sound---good enough for me
