I've been looking at buying my very first VFR, do you think this is a good deal?

    $7800 firm
    2008 VFR800 with ABS brakes
    7000 miles
    silver color
    OEM hard bags mounted
new Michellin Pilot Road 3 tires
    no other mods
up to date with maintenance with full records
    mint condition without a scratch
    private owner with clear title

My riding experience is 20k miles on a 2007 Triumph Sprint ST ABS, enjoyed touring the country until the engine died on me, so looking for a replacement that will hopefully be more reliable, that's why I'm shopping for a VFR.

A deal is always what one is willing to spend.

The ABS typically adds about $700 to $1,000 as a factory option. Same with hardbags, but both of these are personal preferences. Tires are part of the maintenance, so even if he spent $300 on a brand new set, so what. That's like saying he changed the oil. It has to be done.

Normally I don't offer my opinion, but this one seems a bit on the high side. Even though 7000 miles is nothing, there are plenty out there with even less.

I would think somewhere in the high $5K to low $6K price range, taking into consideration the ABS and the Bags. Remove those 2 items, and this bike is going for less than $5,000 all day long.

These are nothing more than my opinions. Things can vary, like where you live. The Canadians on this board wouldn't think twice about that price - hell, they'd pay $8500! :)

Do some research, including the classifieds on this forum. Use the search function. You'll see what people have been paying (including brand new, out of the crate, leftovers going for $7K to $8K).

I agree with Pliskin (Snake) ...............$7800 is a bit high. If you not in a hurry to buy. Take your time and search around. I am sure you can find them under 7k with Staintune exhaust and Pciii

    Not all of us!
Some of us actually use the internet and find cheap bikes just south of us in the lower 48. I have to agree that $7800 seems a bit high. There are some amazing bikes out there with bags for much less. Just look at the classifieds here on VFRW.

I agree with all. That is a bit high. I bought my 05 in 2010 for $4300 with 19K miles and managed to find OEM bags for $500 after a new paint job. Mine is not ABS. Some guy wanted to sell me an 05 with 12K and a few farkles for 7K. Patience pays off. You'll find what you want.

    Where do you live?

For most bikes, the market is a buyer's market..... A little soft.

There are a lot of dreaming sellers out there.

They all eventually will come down to make a sale, unless they find someone who didn't do their homework

I'm in the South (GA), and I bought my '07 for under 5500 with less than 1500 miles. I wanted an RWB, so I just waited. Passed on a really nice 06 ABS (claimed in ad) w/ factory bags (in pictures) w6k miles for 5900 in December. I just started looking in every possible ad venue - craigs list, ebay, local traders, etc. until I found what I was looking for. I looked from Daytona to Ohio, and Virginia to Arkansas.

Just remember the nature of the market..... once you have decided what it it that you want, be patient and wait for the right deal.

Good Luck, and happy hunting.

    First POST!

just for reference, i just bought and 06 white w/ABS, with Givi hard bags and windshield for $5200. it's in perfect mechanical condition but the first owner (i'm the third) scuffed up the right side of the front cowl. it's not bad and the rest of the bike is in great shape.
