Phil here, mid nth coast australia. just bought a 1983 vfr750 as a non goer. seller thought maybe a CDI issue. paid 300 for her. got her home and dropped the 2 rear plugs out and checked-no spark. sprayed wd in all d switches & plugs etc, checked fuses. still no go. spotted a few greeen wires with an eye connecter that wasnt grounded so i threw a bolt in there and viola- we have ignition houston!

bike hasnt been started for a few months. the owner had pulled things off it for repainting a few bits, after that no spark.
ill get a gut full of fuel in her tomorrow and fire her up. if the donk sound ok I may transform her into a street fighter,,,, yes - another one!

    good to be here guys!

Sadly no more Road Warriors for now (apparently plans to rebuild at new site a few clicks up the road) so Pie in the sky is it.

    Hi Bandit,

Nice looking bike. I almost bought the silver, but my wife preferred the red. Anyway, happy wife is a happy life!

    Hi Redex,

Thanks. The silver's not bad. I picked it up when it was less than 12 months old, so really didn't have any say in the colour. It was std except it came with factory panniers which are good for 3-4 day rides with the mates. I must admit I'd prefer the red so I guess I agree with your wife.

    Cheers

    Colin

    Hi Bandit,

I ended up buying the Honda Topbox so that my wife would feel more secure. I forget what it cost, but I remember that for the same money I could have got a full set of GIVI topbox and panniers. It was a good pickup to get the panniers with the bike. FWIW, I have fitted heated grips and recently bought a Garmin 660 GPS. I've only been using it in the car because the heated grips mounting is using the part where the GPS mount is intended to be fitted. (The two vertical bolts that hold the clutch lever assembly in place.)

I had another look at it this morning, and I reckon I can mount the GPS to the screen with a suction mount and then run a cable under the seat to where I will fit a (fused) cigarette lighter socket. Should be OK, although no doubt if the suction unit fails, it will fail at the worst possible time. The Garmin suction unit seems quite strong though.

    Regards,

    Redex

^ I wouldn't use the suction cup on the bike's windscreen. Too much risk of it coming off because of vibration and excessive curvature of the screen (compared to a car's windscreen). If necessary, get a tank bag with a see-through GPS pocket instead, or swap the heated grip controller to the brake lever mounting bolts and reach across the bike to operate it.
