I'm replacing my cylinder head covers. Black silicone gasket cement was there so I'm guessing the Ultra Black is good enough. I know the Permatex cements are temperature rated but I'm wondering if there's any real benefit (or otherwise) in using the Copper? How hot can the heads get in a So.Cal summer?

    Thanks.

I've always used the ultra grey on head covers with never an issue. It might be overkill but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

These are the Permatex temp. ratings,

    Grey - 350
    Ultra Grey - 625
    Red - 650
    Copper - 700

    Thanks Jason,
I guess the Copper would be even more overkill than the grey. As long as there's no downside I think I'll go with that. Might take a ride out to Death Valley.

Overkill is my middle name. The last thing you need is a leak/breakdown in Death Valley. The cooper will do just fine. One less thing to worry about. Just twist the right hand and enjoy!

Permatex ultra Gray is recommended for any place you deal with oil. We used those over at Nissan when we did oil pans, valve cover grommet edges etc. It's factory approved stuff, I use that on nearly every job that required high temp silicone, heck I've used them on exhaust flanges and they sealed up perfect and stays flexible and soft even on a turbo flange.
