wanted to know if this would be a good bike to get running. I know nothing about these bikes but its a Honda so I thought maybe you guys would know something about it. Easy to do the work the guy is suggesting? Easy to maintain? parts? worth the price? Does it have BALLZ?? lol Just wondering cause a friend of mine has been looking for something to ride around cause hes been itching to ride. I know I could get into google and find out loads about this machine, which i probably will, but i figure I just ask you all in the meantime. Maybe a good project to flip and learn how to wrench on?

Be on that like flies on dog sh*t. Those hawks have a cult following and are hard to find for that cheap.

So you guys think even though its been sitting for 4 years and needs at least new tires, chain, battery, and who knows what on the carb - it would still be worth grabbing? Like I said im looking for something to start learning to wrench on so I dont want to get in over my head or anything. Im going to contact the guy and share some words with him..$1000 a good deal or should I turn on the negotiation skills?? lol

The only talk you should be having is what is his address and does he prefer fifties or hundreds.

Its a good price and you would be able to get your money back. I had one and rode it not too long, mine had a issue when it would heat up. What I needed was a parts bike to swap a few parts on such as coils and maybe even cdi...Build quality makes me drool compared to my ex500 (sexy aluminum frame and sssw/mine had a 2-brothers pipe which would wake the dead and was minus the air box top, lota intake honk...over-all for the money you cant go wrong.) its still a 3 valve head and dont breath that great, racers raced the shit outa them back in the day and you still see some floating around the tracks. Hot set up was to take the rear cylinder and use it on the front, then use an M4 custom exhaust system. Anyway, I wana forget my Hawk ownership days. Also if you cant ride the bike, the price should be reflective in the final sum...I test rode mine and it was still fucked up/even after countless times removing carburetors, that was close to ten years ago though too..>AnywhoooOO cheers and keep us posted on it!!

    Welcome to Wheelieville.
You're crazy if you don't jump all over that. If I was in HI, I'd be racing you there. No offense or anything :)

That is a fun bike to ride and at that price.... whew make it happen. Usually for 1K you get a baffed out all beat up POS. Up here in the frozen waste lands of Canada a running bike will net you at least $1800 and for sure it won't be a pretty sight to behold. The whole balance between supply and demand is all screwed up here for some reason.

Ok so here is the deal...I just talked to the guy and he said that one other guy is scheduled to look at the thing today at 130p..it is now 930a and I am trying to find a ride out there. My girlfriend took our cherokee to work and when I talked to the guy on the phone he said he would not suggest that I ride my vfr out to that side of the island because of the weather. sucks cause its 80 degrees at my house right now! lol Judging by the way you guys are talking about this I will throw down the $1000 today if I get out there - but not before I wave $800 in his face lol Ill let you guys know what happens and hopefully I will be asking you guys for advice on getting her going in the near future!

oh yea and when I first emailed the guy I asked him how it was stored for 4 years. He said all he did was top off the tank and turn off the petcock and he didnt expect it to sit that long. Would this add any extra trouble for the bike?

Even with the old gas in the tank, needing new tires, chain, etc... it's a steal. he doesn't know what he has. those things pull $1500 in worse shape than that...

great starter bike and tons of fun acc to all reports. I looked for one for years, but could never find a deal close to that.

My good friend Musashi is heading over there in 45 minutes to pay this man for me!

I appreciate the advice - I knew I could count on vfrworld to help me make a choice. I asked the guy about the gas in the tank and he said he looked in there and the tank looks good and he said guaranteed my friend would vouch for him on that. he said the gas even smelled good still. Seems like a legit guy - hes older and has the clear title, all paperwork and what not in hand. But after I asked him if hes firm on the price he told me yes cause hes getting a high volume of inquiries on the bike so I just went for it. I let other deals slip away from me in the past - which bummed me out - so im happy about this.

EDIT: Update! the deal is done $1000 bucks and hes handing over the signed title, keys, all paperwork, joe rocket gloves, new filters, disc lock, and tie down straps! Now all i gotta do is find another homie with a truck to pick the thing up this week.

We got a 96 sport model. got a dented front fender from my girl in a parking garage and has needed a new alternator and tie rod end in the 9 months we had it, but it treats us really well. We drive across the island every week or two to get my son and the jeep has never failed us!! besides the alternator incident, but luckily I got good friends who wrenched the thing in a mcdonalds parking lot for me lol
