I recently pulled the carbs off of my bike for cleaning and after finally freeing them from the rubber boots, there was a small rubber hose that appeared to be “connected” (I’m not sure if it was actually connected or if it was just attached to them for routing?) to the bottom of the carbs. Being thrilled with finally freeing the carbs and assuming that the connection point would be easy to figure out once the carbs were off I didn’t pay attention to where it was connected and just reached under and pulled it off. Well, it’s time to reinstall the carbs and I still have no idea where this hose goes. I didn’t see any connection points on the carb – I traced the other end and it appears to be just a vent or overflow hose since it’s just routed behind the Air Injection Control Valve on the right side of the frame and not connected to anything.

Does anyone have any clue what this is supposed to attach to? I can’t find it in my Clymer manual and I’ve viewed every schematic ever posted to the web. Could this attach to the nipple at the rear bottom of the tank near the fuel line?

Probably an overflow drain hose. Does it route down under the bike?

I just pulled the coolant reserve tank and confirmed that it just dead-ends right behind it - seems like a strange place considering that all of the other overflow/vents go down thru the center of the bike and exit thru the bottom fairing. I'll try to take a few pics later on today.

OK, here are a couple of pics - one is just the hose (about 1/4" OD and 1/8" ID and maybe 1.5' long) and the second is a pic with the coolant reserve tank removed - you can see that the hose just ended right behind it. I downloaded the service manual and the closest thing I see is a connection nearby to the evap canister, but that's only on CA models. The bike seems to be running fine without the hose but it would be nice to know what the heck it is and where the other end was connected.

If you don't have a line going to that vent then that's probably what it was attached to. If it had a clip attached, or a ridge where a clip had been, then you've solved your problem.
