This is posted else where as well on this site....

This is all to do with installing a Garmin Zumo 550 on a Honda VFR1200

I have been down to the dealer. They had asked me to email the installation instructions on Saturday on how to install a Garmin Zumo 550. We are now four days later and I had heard nothing. I went in and the mechanic and the service manager did not even know where my bike was. They had not seen it since Saturday. Why did I need to email the instructions then? Why have they not contacted Honda Tech for help or even Garmin? Why have they not contacted me in the past few days to let me know what is going on? (I have called and left messages and no one gets back to you) I had supplied them with a new replacement cradle and power cord as they are saying that the fault lies there and not the installation. This has just come off a 2008 VFR800 where it all worked fine. In the box with the new cradle was the security screw driver to get the GPS in and out of the new and old cradle. This was never given to the tech. He has now broken the back of the GPS that the security screw went in to, this stops the GPS from being stolen from the bike. He has also stripped the top of the screw. He said he was never given the srew drivers. (they had two of them... one from the old and one from the new). Nobody asked anyone or passed on all the gear he needed to do the job that I had given them....... I was told he is a great tech as he has trained to work on Prius cars.......eeerrrrr this is a Honda VFR1200 and not a f##cking Prius.
By the way...... Honda Canada are not interested as this is a franchise Honda Powersport Dealer....... Don't ask me how mad I am... three weeks to install a GPS and still waiting

Sorry to hear about your poor service, I would install them for you if you were closer. I would make the dealership to replace a new GPs and take that to another shop. Hope someone live close by can lay a hand to help you out. Where is Jason Smith when we need him.......

If that dealer won't replace your GPS at no cost to you - AND pay to have it installed by a competent technician, I would definitely let them know about the power of the internet and social media. That is pure BS. Installing a gadget (like a GPS) isn't rocket science.

I don't think the problem lies with the VFR 1200 or Honda, place the blame on the technician. I can't see it being that hard to install in yourself. If you have the directions, and can read and follow steps, you could do it yourself.

Good luck on getting it resolved.

You want a new one in the box and yank your ride from that stealer-ship and find a tech that has actually been trained to service MOTORCYCLES, not freekin cars---- like foothill mentioned--

What a fucking tard bucket. Good luck with that one, hopefully you can tell the "tech"
(read: poorly trained monkey) what a complete idiot he is for breaking damn near everything possible that there was nothing wrong with.

Gee, this won't unscrew, let me go get a prybar to release a GPS from it's mount, yeah, just what every motorcyclist carrys around with them all the time when they stop, a bigass prybar to remove their GPS........................uber failure.

We demand (please :wink:)posting of dealer and tech name so nobody else gets screwed in the meantime.

Call the dealer directly man. Are you suggesting you called Honda canada customer relations and they did nothing about your issue... ??? Been a Honda car dealer for some time. Never heard of Honda Canada washing their hands due to franchise.

I have my bike back now. Picked it up last week. Honda customer service were not interested...... I have had Honda bikes since I was 16.... Honda CB50, Honda NSR125, Honda CBR600, 3X Honda VFR800 VTEC and now a Honda VFR1200. This might be my last one. If Honda Canada can not give me any help when a dealer screws up and has Honda Powerhouse above their door, then they can shove it. (the only thing is I like Honda bikes)...... Honda Canada did say that the dealer was a franchise and as such could not help me.

That is rather unfortunate to hear, but you could allways switch up and buy used, that way the dealer can't make any money off you that they refuse to do anything for later. Is there such thing as consumer affairs up there in Kanukia?? I would be contacting some people and raising hell.

Thats unacceptable. You are very restrained. I'd shout the f-ing place down....

I really value my local dealerships. That doesn't mean they get to get away with murder.

    Feel for you mate.

Damn, they suck. I commented on your video, too. Don't worry Rocky Mountain Honda Powerhouse Calgary will come up in google searches and the bad PR will get to them eventually. I'd still call and raise hell, too.

Let me get this straight... you took a third party (non-Honda manufactured nor supported) device to a dealership that's not direcly tied to Honda (a franchise, sort of like an 'authorized retailer') to be installed, and when they failed, you blame Honda?
Go after the dealership all day long if you want to, but IMHO, you are getting all amped up and blaming all the wrong people. If you walk away from a lifelong relationship with Honda products over this, you have no one to blame but yourself. At the end of the day, Honda Canada has no legal responsibility to step in with a franchise dealer asked to install non-Honda products, and you shouldn't threaten walking away from the brand because they won't step in.
I understand you're upset about this, but you should be channeling your anger and energy in the right directions, rather than saying "Honda sucks," because Honda doesn't suck; your dealership's service department does.

it is always easy to give such advice when it's not your problem. it is honda's problem and their lack of assistance in the matter is unabridged bullshit.

It is absolutely NOT Honda's problem to be responsible for a third party accessory. If this was any Honda part or Honda accessory, they would probably be all over it. This customer is trying to install a third party GPS system into the VFR's electrical system. Why on Earth would Honda get involved in something that could potentially cause a warranty issue? Their techs are not certified to install Garmin's GPS systems, so they're taking on a potential rat's nest of warranty and legal issues should something catastrophic happen (and yes, I know that's highly unlikely, but you know legal - if it COULD happen, they're worried about it). If the (franchised, non-Honda-owned) dealer wanted to jump into those waters, so be it. Honda Canada corporate is not going to get involved. This is not a Honda problem. This is a problem between the franchise dealer and its customer.
