Hey everyone! I just picked up an '02 VFR800 Interceptor yesterday and I am already hooked. I rode it two hours back home in possibly the nicest weather Ohio has had this year. It was, by far, one of the most visceral riding experiences ever. I absolutely love this bike. I snapped this pic of it from my phone:

Is there a decent VFR community in Ohio?

    For those who even care, or not, I also own a 1977 Honda GL1000, 93 RX7 (HBP, T04R), 2000 Wrangler(4" and 33s), 90 FS Bronco, and a 99 Civic Si (Daily driver).

Thanks for checking out my intro. - Adam

The bike looks great - practically new. How many miles did you get it with? If it doesn't have a Power Commander on it, then get one installed and the bike will be flawless. Welcome to the forum.

It only has 11,4xx original miles on it. I am new enough to this platform that I know next to nothing about them. I assume a Power Commander is a device to adjust air/fuel mapping and timing? Also, is there any VFR-specific maintenance that I should have done to this bike immediately? I tend to maintain my vehicles VERY well and I am prepared to address whatever this bike may need. Thanks for the welcome :)

Thank you! I am looking forward to meeting more. I want to get some miles put on this thing. Thanks for the welcome :)

Thanks for the welcome. I checked the oil before I left. I will check the coolant the next time I go out to the garage.

    Hello and Welcome Adam. :welcome:

Take the bike down to your local Honda dealer and have them run the VIN number just to make sure that any recall work has been done.

Your particular bike may not have had any recalls on it but some of the earlier 6th gen. model bikes had a few major issues that Honda repaired free of charge.

The Power Commander that Stewart mentioned makes a world of difference on these bikes. They run much smoother.

You can run either a PCIII.....

    .....or a PCV.

Excellent. I will take it down Monday to have them run the VIN.

As for the Power Commander, I would assume that this is nearly "a must" for these bikes? Also, which one tends to be better of the two you posted? Once I know that, I will do a search to see which key areas are improved with the commander. I also would like to find a more comfortable seat, lowered foot pegs, and the Heli bars. I am 6'3" and 350 pounds. From what I have read, those three things are a must for improved comfort. Other than that, I'll leave it alone.

    Yeah, I'm an ogre.

The recall on your year would be the harness. Other than that the bike is solid as Stsh said pciii Will help big time for the lack of throttle at low speed. Take youre time get to know the bike then start the mods when you are ready.

What do you mean by "hardness"? I definitely want to get to know the bike better before I to anything to it tuning wise. I may go ahead and order the bars and seat though.

That looks like a promising thread. I will look through it later tonight when I get a chance. Thanks for the link!

First of all, Teke, thanks for posting up a pic on your first post! Good on you. The only thing we like more than pics of VFRs are pics of naked ladies. I'm 6'2" and 225 and found my 2000 to be just a little bit too tight to be comfortable on. I installed Heli Bars and it made a world of difference. I also installed Larry's peg lowering blocks (link to him here: BusyLittleShop - Viewing Profile - VFR Discussion) to stretch out my legs a little bit more. You have to adjust the brake and clutch levers, but it's worth it. My VFR is now comfortable enough that I'd consider riding it for a weekend/overnight sort of trip.
Mine is a 5th gen, so can't comment on the engine response of the later years.
Good luck with it and ride it hard!

Welcome! Nice bike! Mine's an 02 as well. I have Heli-bars on mine and it's just right.

You have some beautiful roads to ride down in your area. You and the VFR are going to have some fun.

    Welcome, from Columbus, OH!

Thanks for that. I'll be calling Honda first thing on Monday to check on this.

Thanks for the link. Yeah, this is not my first rodeo on a message board. I know all about a proper intro :) I think the Heli bars will be my first purchase, followed by the lowered pegs shortly after. I will have to wait on the seat and PCV until after I get a few more things done on my FD.

Yeah, from everything I have read, they seem to help a ton.

Is your name Ryan by any chance? Yeah, the roads down here are amazing, but lately riding at night feels like getting constantly pelted with birdshot due to all of the damn bugs.

A quick search confirmed it. Ryan, I am FourString on CR. Just so you know, your bike was one of the many reasons why I bought a VFR. We'll have to go riding sometime.
