Welcome to the world of vfr. You might want to include what year and model you are asking about since there is 30 years of bikes here.

Did you happen to do any sort of engine oil change at the same time or recently prior to this? If so was it the correct type and amount? Engine oil viscosity and level can cause lack of disengagement.

In addition this could be caused by air bubbles in the hydraulics, low clutch fluid level, a leak in the hydraulics, or warped clutch plates.

Pull the clutch slave & inspect it and the clutch rod. sounds like the puck in the slave isn't fully retracting. Could also be that the rubber part of the line-set is going bad? if these are working properly then it is internal.

Bleed/replace clutch hydraulic fluid, and use a C-clamp to fully retract the slave cylinder after removing the front sprocket cover.

    You need to be VERY

IMG_0416.jpg careful not to over-tighten the long bolts securing the cover to the engine and tighten gradually according to sequence outlined in FSM.

Either you still have air in system or the slave needs rebuilding
