    Hi all
I've been off bikes for about 3 years, thought it was about time to get another so went out this morning and bought myself a 1996 VFR750 FT. First impressions are good i really like it :)
Thought I'd join the forum for advice and stuff. Looks like I've found my first problem. It seems the chain adjuster is stuck. Got to get a c spanner first to check but I'm sure I'll get it sorted!!

Welcome to the sight, and congrats on the new purchase.

Not sure how to unstick the tensioner. Probably just a little funked up after all these years?

Post up some pictures too, or we don't believe you actually bought a bike and you're just here as a poser.

Wow quick response on here. She's got about 48000 miles on her. It's a parallel import so got a KM speedo but loads of history and the motor is really quiet. I'll try to post some picks tomorrow when I can get on the pc. Can't work out how to do it on my phone.

Well, since you're willing to oblige us with pics of your bike, how about some pics of hot women sitting on your bike? Step it up...

And a very nice looking ride you got there.

Thanks Pliskin..Think the hot women pics may take a little more time  The bike sure is pretty..especially when you think its 16 years old.

I like your way of thinking Willy. First we need to find out if it can be done. Then we need to check out the postage costs as we're on opposite sides of the world :)
But I'm willing to look into it.

    Sounds good :)

I will investigate the removal of the speedo face (bugger, I just had the speedo off last week)
and if its possible, I will get a quote on postage (won't be much at all due to the small size and weight)

I will get back to ya mate

Hope it works out for the both of you. That's kind of cool - couple of guys join the forum from opposite sides of the world and looking to make a trade!

    Hi Rusty

I have done some checking, we have three options.

    1. Just swap the speedo face itself...but the removal of this can be tricky due to the removal of the needle (they have a tendancy to break! EEEK)...and we are stuck with odometers reading the old measure's
    2. Swap the entire speedo gauge (not the whole unit!..just the speedo gauge)..but then we have a problem of incorrect K's/Miles on the odometers...tricky to rewind/advance.
    3. We both hunt like crazy on ebay etc for replacement units (My PCB board is in need of replacing)

I would still be keen for a speed swap (just the speedo gauge..not the whole cluster due to my PCB board being "modified" to actually work!).
But you need to be pritty handy with a set of spanners mate, cos the speedo removal is a time consuming and delicate job if done properly (whole front fairing removed, unit unpluged & removed, and then unit dissasembled to remove the speedo gauge)
Also, we will both be without a speedo for the duration of the job + postage time. (looks like main unit will still work without it, lights rev gauge etc)

    sounds like fun aye lol

There are a few units on ebay presently tho-

    97 HONDA VFR750 VFR 750 F VFR750F SPEEDOMETER, SPEEDO, GAUGE, 18,525 MILES #16 | eBay

HONDA VFR 750 SPEEDO HEAD | eBay

HONDA VFR750 SPEEDO HEAD SPEEDOMETER | eBay

HONDA VFR750 SPEEDO HEAD CLOCK | eBay

As you can see, they range in price from "not to bad"...too "Bloody ripoff!" lol

    your call mate

    -Willy

    Hi Willy
It was a nice idea but I see your point about the needle and being without a speedo for the duration of the project.
I think I might have found a full set of clocks on eBay at a reasonable price so I think I'll go for those.
Best of luck with finding some for yours.
Either way mate keep in touch and enjoy that VFR
    All the best
    Shane.
