Back in April, I came across a 2000 VFR 800. I've been working on Truth ever since. And, it seems as if I am done with Phase 1: Deconstruction. Reason I took so long is because I am a full-time Grad Student, this is just my get away.

So, now i'm on Phase 2: Repairs. It doesn't look like there's too many parts I need to purchase because I've been ordering replacement parts since April (Another source of my delay). One tab on the frame did break and needs repair. The crankcase cover is cracked and won't retain oil. If I have enough in my budget, hopefully, I can get the window mod done. Either way, its a mod that is on my priority list. At the moment, I have two sets of forks (the crashed set and a set I bought from ebay). I checked out the crashed set and I thought they were bent, I guess the naked eye can't notice the bend? I say they are bent only because, when the tire was facing forward, the handlebars faced slightly to the right. Is it possible to gold plate the fork tubes? I was looking into TiN plating them, it that achievable with these forks? The reason I want to get the gold effect is because I have decided on a color scheme for the bike. The frame, Subframe, swing arm and fork bases will be powder coated candy red. The clutch cover, stator cover, and other accenting parts will be powder coated gold. As for the body work (just tail section and Gas tank for now) will be painted Flat Pearl White. How does that color scheme sound?

So I bought the top portion of the triple tree from a sixth gen VFR and the handle bars from an '03 Black Bird. It looks as if it will work out!

I have been meticulously cleaning the engine. I've used engine specific degreasers, industrial strength degreasers and nothing. So, I finally brought out the steel wool and soap. it works wonders. Thing is, I know I'm hurting the aluminum. So, I want to paint the engine. I was thinking of using VHT Engine Metallic Black Pearl and then accenting the valve covers in Engine Metallic Gold. I don't see any harm being done with this.

In the future, I do plan to incorporate full custom fairings. I don't have a brake light at the moment. But
I will be fiber glassing the brake light gap shut and mounting a custom brake light. Do you guys have any suggestions?

I am looking for a custom headlight housing.

I have the gauges, I don't know whether to sell them or to keep them. I also have right side fairing, repaired by me and ready for paint, front fairing with broken tabs, headlights with one broken tab and a repair made to the top, eventually some forks, other unsalvageable plastics (may be useful to repair your fairings).

Wanted to add since you plan on painting tank/ tail white it would be real cool running red thick line on top center of the tank with gold thin lines on the edges highlighting frame engine colors and adding cool look.you can continue that on the tail as well.
similar to this but thicker gold and you can lay a mesh on the red to give cool effect.
Watch this custom bike for the idea.He painted whole bike with rattle can

As for custom fairing.I suggest to install existing bike front that you happen to like.I really love Motto Guzzi v7

Thanks Rubo! I was actually thinking of getting a similar stripe done. Just trying to figure out whether it will be painted or vinyl.
And of course whether the stripe matches the reds. I found the bike on Craigslist for $800. The price was not too bad.

@crustyrider - Well, I needed a summer project as I've been on vacation for the past two months. lol. Trying to finish before I
    get back.

Progress: Cleaning the engine is tough work, tons of nooks and crannies! UGH. Any tips on how to prep the
engine for paint? I don't want the paint peeling off. I've been attacking it with soap, steel wool and (manual)
wire brushes. Tons of elbow grease for this.

Did the valve cover on the right (Front) ever look like the cover on the left (rear)? If so, its kind hard to believe.

Think this is a good idea? How do they look?

I plan on conductingthe pair valve elimination. What are the pros and cons? I bought the cover and vacuum plugs.

I noticed, a few weeks ago that I never removed the Evap Canister. So, I bought one. But, do I absolutely need it?
Please scold me and point me in the right direction.

So, I've been searching for ideas for my build and I came across this. I like the idea of using the tank as an
overflow. I was thinking of doing something similar (with a slightly smaller/lighter tank). Do you guys see any
problems with this set up? I guess I could just use an aluminum water bottle and paint it, right?

Once again, I have to ask about the evap canister, I purchased one because I didn't have one. Is it a necessity?

Besides this, take a look at my slow progress. It's basically been: clean with soap, wire brush, sand paper, degrease, repeat.
    And then paint.

Any suggestions on what I need to do to this project? I'm still waiting on funds to conduct the window mod and the powder
coating. The crank case cover will be gold and the pressure plate will be candy red.

I was thinking of getting HEL brake lines in gold. The frame and swing arm will be candy red. What do you think of the color
    combo?

I tried to paint the braiding, didn't work out, lol.

Well, I really like the headlight from the CB1000R. But, its really expensive, nearly $700 (thats almost what I paid for the bike).

I'm in the minority here, but it looks nice IMO when you take a OEM round head light and make it look like it came from the factory naked.
Those ebay streetfigher headlights look weird and cheap. But again, I'm in the minority.
And to answer your earlier question about the valve covers, the one towards the rear is painted because it is visible, the forward cover is unpainted.
Keep the pictures coming. Are you going to paint/powder coat the wheels gold also?

So, I have been debating about the naked look with some friends. I am now leaning toward a custom full fairing bike. So, shoot your ideas.

I painted the starter, clutch cover, and water pump.

I also got around to painting the engine. I still need to paint the valve cover in gold. The black paint is called "Black Pearl metallic". It looks nicer in person.

Don't know what you plan to do w/ the rear section, but if interested I have a 6th gen tail section complete with solo cowl and tail light

@02 VFR Rider: I'm not too sure what I'm going to do with the tail section. I bought a new subframe along with used rear fairing, but I don't have the brake light. I was planning on filling in the gap with abs and fiberglass along with custom brake light. At the moment, everything is in the air. Since, I need a larger budget, this is might take longer than expected...

Here are some fairings I have been looking at.

I bought a CBR 1000rr light, it was a bargain. So, I am planning on getting the CBR 1000rr racing fairings and mounting the light on there (of course after fabricating mounts and fitment). I plan on getting a projector for the other side (Give it a S1000rr look).

So, I am about to hit my dead line. That means that I may be working on the bike one day a week, or less. I picked up a lot of hours at work because I go back to school in two weeks. There may not be very much progress as, i have to "literally" hit the books. I'm a History major at CSU Fullerton. Its my third semester as a grad student. That means I have to read a lot of books, write book reviews, read primary sources, decipher primary sources, write some more book reviews, write 20+ page papers, read some more, research, present my research, and then at the end of the semester, sleep. Wish me luck with this feat!

The good thing is that I do not have too much ahead of me by way of assembly. The engine is painted. I need to send the swing arm and frame in for powder coat. But, before I do that, I need to decide what I am going to do with my tail section. I'm looking at CBR sub frames as I like the aesthetic provided by the racing fairings. I'll just have someone force it on (jk). As for the full fairings, I really like the GSXR racing fairing I posted above. If I do get that upper and lower fairing, I will fabricate a mount for a single projector, dead center.

Do you guys have any recommendations for projectors? I will be running a 6000k HID kit. The 10000k lights on my RED VFR are way too dim (Both due to the tint of the light and the lens).

Besides that, shes nearly ready for reconstruction. The weather, here in Los Angeles, has been great for painting. So, I must decide on a sub frame soon. I bought a clutch cover from Tink on Ebay. For now, I will fill it in and paint it gold. In the very near future I will have the clutch window mod done on the other clutch cover I have. I guess it depends on whether or not the custom fairings cover up the clutch cover.

I don't know what I am going to do about the chain guard. Are there any smaller solutions? I do want the candy red color of the swing arm to show up. Is it safe to powder coat the rear sprocket?

As for expenses, I am looking at new clutch disks, brake pads, steel braided HEL brake lines, the powder coating, fabrication of rear tail and subframe, the tail section, new oil, coolant, brake lights and turn signals, and anything else I forgot. =/ I'm also looking at swapping out for a sixth gen tank, but that would mean that I have two fifth gen tanks. anyone need a tank. I will post up pics. I'll let them go at $60 plus shipping. I also have a Corbin seat and an OEM seat. $100 plus shipping for the Corbin and $25 plus shipping for the OEM seat. If I choose to get the custom CBR tail, I will have sub frame and rear fairing for sale. $50 plus shipping for sub frame and $50 for the rear fairing (ready for paint). I have a left radiator that pretty beat up, it still holds coolant, I might post it up on ebay. But, if you guys want it, ill let it go for $15 plus shipping. I will post a separate thread of what exactly is for sale with prices. I'm not really willing to adjust the price. However, I'm up for trades.

Also I have tons of torn up parts. I have three bent sub frames, an obliterated rim, ripped up slip on, and other misc metal parts. Can I recycle them for money?

I am going to paint the fairings myself. I am going for Matte pearl white. How can I achieve this look?

    Wish me luck in school.
