My 2002 was 498 miles away in Tahoe. Took 6 months to find and found my babe at 3am on craiglist. The guy had it 5 years and put only 400 miles on it. The kicker is it only had 1800 miles , kept in a heated garage in the winter with 3 harleys and a 67 vet. Drove up last March in the snow to pick it up-- Grinnin all the way home looking at her in the rear view :)

20 Miles in the Bay Area of CA. Some collector had 15+ bikes and died. Left them to relative who left them on consignment at the local dealer. 2 were 2000 VFRs with about 10K miles. I got one and there's one still there - diablobmw.com

When I first saw her, she was in the hangar at my office. When I bought her she was a couple blocks away.

Seems like it was either luck it was right near by, or people did their homework, found what they wanted and made the trek to get it.

Can't lump every one into those two categories, but the fair majority.

    Roughly 8.5lbs.

I never weighed either system. Im going by what tink said the stock system weighed, and the shipping weight of the TBR system (minus packing material).

    250 miles, +/- a few.
Hadn't riden daily in ten years, was a ninja 250. Came up on some cash (rare for me), wondered what to do with it for two weeks salivating at the possibles. Searched CL.org random style found clean red/gold 2002 w/staintunes, PC3 and K&N. $3000, which was all I had and I knew. Nervous nelly me is back on a bike, getting comfy fast, safen $$$ on gas.

I went 76 miles one way... took 2 hours with after work traffic. I'm happy I did it though--I'm loving my new '02 VFR800!

Drove in a down pour for 2 hours, approx 100 miles. bought the bike expecting to drive back on a sunny day to pick it up. At the last minute, convinced the seller to help me push it up on my truck, at my risk. No slip or wreckage... Sat in my truck overnight an unloaded it the next day.

Longest travel was actually a Daytona 675 in Vegas. Flew from Sacramento to Vegas. bought the bike then rode the bike back. Rectifier died about 50 miles from home at about 8 pm. Made for an interesting night. Luckily, it died right in front of a walmart. Went in, bought the biggest motorcycle battery I could find, some wires and rode home with the battery in my tail bag and wires running under the seat. Someone finally stopped to give me a jump and was nice enough to rev the engine a while to charge the battery a bit more before I took off. Bike made it all the way to the end of my drive way before it died completely. Fun.

You had me on your 3700 mile trip until the words "there's nothing in South Dakota". I'm a city slicker who grew up backpacking, and was spoiled from childhood by the high rockies and sierras, the trinity alps (first backpacking trip at 7), glacier, olympic peninsula, etc. Trust me when I say: South Dakota deserves another look....

Kidding about the trip overview, was a great read

As to OP, 720 miles here, but it was a trip to my hometown, then back up to where I had lived for the prior 7 years, so it wasn't exactly an arduous affair.

Right at 250 miles door to door (500 round trip ). Hauled it home in my truck . Several were closer, but had outstanding loans and were upside down with the loan vs value.

Back in the spring of 2010, I bought a 2002 in Dallas which was about 6000 kms round trip. Flight out and ride home. In may this year I bought a 2007 in Hilton Head South Carolina which was about 3000 kms round trip with a trailer. No regrets on either purchase.

    Hmmm, about 5 miles.

I did a lot of internet research on bikes leading up to the purchase of my FIRST bike. After scanning the used inventories of the local dealerships I ran across my baby. After a day or so of deciding whether the viffer was the right choice of bike for my very first. I went to the dealership about 5 miles from my office on my lunch break, loaded her up in my truck and the rest is history.

I drove 600 miles round trip from Maryland to North Carolina. Took about 4.5 hours each way. It was sunny and mid-70's the entire trip. What a great drive. Hard to complain about the miles considering the reason I was driving them. 300 miles with a beautiful VFR looking at me in the rear view mirror.
