Hello All. New rider here in Northern NJ. Last week I ended up buying a 97 VFR750 in very good shape. It's my first bike so I plan to take it real slow. I had been looking at a number of bikes but liked so much about all I heard of the older Honda VFRs. When this bike came available, I jumped on it. Now it's mine! I was a little concerned that it was an older bike too but it was well sorted and the previous owners took care of it. So much to like about the bike.

I found this forum when doing some research on the VFRs. Tons of info. Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I look forward to getting to know you all here.

Congrats on your viffer! It looks brand new!

I've had my VFR since March, and I really enjoy it. Mine is the quirky 6th gen, which seems to be the one that takes the longest to grow on you, but I love it.

By the by, I used to live in NJ. I was in Burlington County for 4 years. I miss it but when I lost my good job, I couldn't afford to live there anymore.

    Welcome to the forum!

    Rich

Welcome to the site. Nice ride. You must have read Pliskin's berating of a Noob for not posting pix.....LOL. Some will say this bike is too big a bike for a beginner. I don't agree. Play it safe and go easy until you know your ride. Hope to hear from you often.

BTW....I have never lived, visited or even dreamed about NJ. Maybe I am missing something here. KC10 does not think to highly of this place though.

KC hates everyone and everything. No doubt there is a lot of stuff wrong with Jersey, but there's also a lot of good stuff. If you ever make it here, I could show you places that you'd never suspect were Jersey. Don't mind the dueling banjos.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Do I feel it is too big for me as a beginner? Hrm...first time I took it off the center stand, it almost fell over since the weight started leaning to the right. oops...wasn't expecting that. I'll make sure to be seated on it before doing that again. When seated on the bike I can move it around forward and backwards without trouble.

I think it fits me pretty well at 5'11, 215 lbs. I can flat foot it, power comes on smooth, pegs and shifter seem to be in a good position for me and it just feels comfortable. That said, I will spend much more time in the parking lot before I head out on the road. As others have mentioned, it doesn't feel too heavy while moving except for those slow speed turns. I'm a little wobbly and it doesn't feel as easy as the BRC bikes making those figure 8 U-turns. During those maneuvers, since I'm ready to put my feet down if needed, I'm not supporting my weight with legs close to the tank and can find myself putting more weight on the arms too.

Some of these things I need to just get used to and continue to work on but it's a blast learning. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions and can use all the advice. I wear my full gear when on the bike and plan to all the time so no worries! I originally was looking at the VFR800s since they looked sharp and seemed good for eventual two up riding. I slowly worked my way backwards in generations because the more I researched, the more I liked the older gens...a little lighter, less powerful, great styling and that gear driven cams thing. Very happy with my decision so far.
