Most of the people I work with think my Viffer is standard (crotch-rocket) sportbike. After a while, I got tired of explaining the differences so now I just agree with them.

They also think it must be blisteringly fast. I got tired of explaining that, while it's no slouch, it isn't the fastest bike out there.

Most people who mention a motor size tend to think it's a 600. Why? My guess is that's what most folks are familiar with, but who knows?

Finally, when I tell them that it's an 800, they get a confused look on their face and I'm pretty sure they think I don't know what the hell I'm talking about because sportbikes only come in 600, 750, 1000, etc...., right???

I haven't taken it out in my new town yet, but in New Orleans, I got a lot of looks and questions about both my now-deceased 4th-gen and my 5th-gen. I'm pretty sure I had the only example of both in the entire city at the time, so I kind of liked the rarity.

These "summer time snowmobiles" are like arse*&%$# up here, you see them on every corner. Even worse when you enter Quebec! It's like they get a discount on em cause they are made there or sumthin. Coarse, with the global warming issue, we just don't get to ride our real snowmobiles anymore so I guess it is an outlet.

I haven't had anyone come up to me and ask questions, but I get some looks. I find the same thing as SouthTexisRich. The other night I was visiting a friend in the hospital and there were several other people there that I did not know. One of the ladies asked what a had for a motorcycle (I had my helmet and jacket with me). When I told her it was a Honda Interceptor she said "is that one of those crotch rockets?" Before I could even start to educate her my ex-wife piped up and said "yes, its one of those things you have to lean way over to ride. Its so uncomfortable." I didn't even try after that... Just said I was MUCH more comfortable and don't have the lower back pain I did with my other bike (which was a cruiser).

Was at my local Starbucks tonight with my son after we had a short ride and a guy walked up and asked if my bike was a Ducati. Said, "I seen one of them Italian bikes before with the single side swingarm and figured that must be what you have." "Pretty nice looking bike you have there," he added.

I didn't have time to respond before my 5 year old mutters from behind his hot chocolate. "No my daddy doesn't ride a Ducati, he rides a Honda", and walks over and points to the wing on the tank and says, "See, it says right hear, this symbol means it's a HONDA". He said Honda so emphatically it was way too funny. Out of the mouths of babes..........

The guy responded, "I see your right, it certainly does say Honda, and do you know what kind of bike your daddy rides." My son replied, "Yes, Its a VFR, see." My son then pointed to the lettering on the lower cowl with a big smile on his face, and added "My daddy has had three VFR's, two red and one yellow."

He's a true VFR trooper in the making.......

Actually, thinking back, I probably get more questions about the sound and the engine making it than anything else. A motorcycle that sounds like a Chevy V8 sure turns heads!

Sometimes I just feel like these "showboat" type dudes just want to confirm that they have a bigger machine than you lol Those are usually the type of guys that ask if its a 600. You know the kind of guys who at least one of them have a mohawk on their helmet lol.

I get asked ALL the time 1.) what kind of bike is that 2.) what size 3.) what year, and some guys even say, I didn't know they still make those - I had a 198x or 199x and loved it! It's hilarious too cause usually takes people a few minutes to point out the swing arm too when my eyes always go straight to the swing arm.
