Hondapitbull, the Shark helmet seems to be quite nice. At 1400 grams it is indeed light, but I think we both need to be corrected about the lightest full face helmet and that, according to the website below, is the BMW Sportintegral Carbon helmet at 1000 grams! However, at $1,500 US dollars it might not sell too well. Check this out...

Shoei RF-1000 was my recent pick when I went to upgrade the old one. Nice inside and visor change is rather easy.

I've got an HJC CL-SP in flat black and it's pretty badass. It's a pretty decent helmet as far as I can tell.

I couldn't be happier with my Shoei X-11, Sometimes you can pick them up on a smoking deal of E-Bay, Easy on/off on the windshield and the weight is weight is 1450 grams...

There are a couple of other Carbon Fiber models out there, that are probly about the same weight, but not listed.

Wow, I was hoping I'd get one or two replies but this is great. At least I have a little more idea of what you guys wear. I'll get down to the dealer tomorrow and see what fits my noggin. I was pretty pleased with my KBC but I didn't really want to get the same helmet again if I wasn't crazy about it. The road noise was pretty bad with it. I'll update this thread after I try some more on...

Update: Okay. So I go try lids today. The Shoei seems to fit pretty nice but when I close my eyes and pretend that I don't see the shoei sticker, the Scorpion fits pretty damn good. So I try on the Arai which fits really well, very comparable to the Scorpion actually. The Icon fits fine also, but looking at it, there are lots of little parts that I think I'd probably break. Supposedly you can even change the shiled on the Scorpion with gloves on. The Shark just looked funky to me and didn't seem to fit comparable to the cost. The Icon seemed like it might be the quietest, but I could add a NOJ qiuetride to any if it becomes a problem. I am leaning toward the Scorpion now after the research I've done. I can say one thing, the brain bucket I have now SUCKS! I didn't realize how much difference a decent helmet makes. I think tomorrow I'll just wear my old KBC without a shield rather that that damn Q-tip looking thing I have been wearing! I'm gonna try and post of a pic for you guys so you can see how ridiculous it is...

    :spider: Guys,

Carbon fibre has higher tensile strength than steel. I like DOT as opposed to Snell, or anything Chinese, except KBC as they are managed by Koreans.

But what the hell do I know? 30 years of engineering may have polluted me!

Kind of a sucky thing to do, essentially use the dealer for his in stock, stock. And then buy it elsewhere. It is one thing when you know what you want and just online and find it, but when you use a physical store's resources, and then don't give them the business??? IMHO that is pretty crappy. Part of the reason it is cheaper on the net is the lack of actually having to maintain a store, and all that entails, so that you can have a place to try on the helmets. My Schuberth was either $50 or $100 cheaper online that the dealer I found that carried it. Not chump change. But I wasn't about to buy it without trying it one, so I had to go to a dealer. Not my regular dealer, and kind of out of my way, but they stocked what I wanted. So, after some thought on it, I bit the bullet and bought the helmet there.

I like the European standard over Snell or DOT

    Reg,
I have a Shoei X-11. It is an excellent helmet. I like the fit. I wanted to try the scorpion EXO but could not find one to try on. I have a bucket head. the x-11 is light enough at 3.4 lbs. winds resistance is very low. no buffeting at 140+ MPH. my buddy says it is good up to 175

I'm probably gonna buy one from one of the dealers where I tried them on today if I can find a style I like. It's probably gonna be the Scorpion 700 or the Shoei. The cost is pretty comparable at SLO Motorsports (about $60 diff). Oh, I'll attach a thumbnail of the crappy helmet I have been using. Feel free to laugh. This thing fits so loose that when I go about 50 it floats above my head with the chinstrap all the way tight. It's great.

Holy shit Reg! How old is that helmut?

I have the RF1000 and I'm pretty happy with it. There are a lot of extras you can get to make it fit perfect. I admit I'm stuck on Shoei's --

Like I said from the beginning - The Scorpion should be the best budget choice. The Arai is one quite as hell helmet & Shoei is just a good quality helmet. I would go with what fits the best and does not weight too much. You just cannot beat the Scorpion - it is a great helmet for the price. Icon is not very good and is more of a fashion designer than anything else. The ICON stuff will break and will not last - looks pretty but lousy quality. If you like Icon great go with what works for you, but what I have experienced with Icon was all bad. Icon also makes some of the worse gloves also - yuk.

Update: Okay, I bit the bullet. After much debating with myself, I decided to go with the Shoei deal from comp accessories. They are tried and true and I just liked the style better than the style of the scorpion. If Scorpion would have had some designs I was more fond of, I definitely would have gone that way. This $300 SHOEI is my most expensive helmet ever! It better be great! I'll prob do a review after I get it. What the hell...

Yeah, you need some ventilation on your helmet. You woudn't have lasted two seconds in AZ with that white thing! Enjoy the new one!

I just ordered this one in white thru a local establishment, http://www.tonker.com/store/KBC_TK_8_Predator.html

It's a little less expensive on tonker.com, but I felt that if it didn't fit then it would be easier for the retailer to exchange it for another size than for me to do so.
