1999 VFR800 won't start

    Hello, I'm relatively new to the site, and a dinosaur when it comes to these threads, in fact a dino when it comes to a bike this "new"! So I find a suppossedly "mint" 3,800 mile '99 on eBay, (in NC) and had it shipped here to WI. Arrived via an enclosed semi and was strapped in a wooden dolly, lowered by a lift, then tilted up by the lift (steep angle), and released. Bike indeed looks new, but won't start!

    Turned the key, got meters, headlight, horn, etc., then pressed starter button and nothing. Tried everything: clutch lever in/out, kill switch off/on, sidestand up/down, tank is full if it matters, in/out of gear. Then charged battery as sat for 7 weeks, still nothing. Had spoken with/emailed seller many times, has long membership with 100% feedback, so what I'm assuming is that with being wrestled around on the dolly, and tilted, maybe a shut-off switch for the FI, or fuel pump has been tripped? If so, does anyone know the correct path to start on here? I've only owned 2 other FI bikes, and both made a loud sound as the FI system was pressurized. On this bike, I turn the key, press the button, and hear a slight click under the 'dash', headlight dims and nothing. Help!

    Sounds like the battery is toasted. Try giving it a boost. If it starts, then you'll know it's the battery. I'm assuming that you already checked the battery connections, of course.

    Thanks for the advice and the welcome! I understand that often batteries get blamed when not at fault, yet have experienced a battery that seemed to test ok, yet was junk. The battery shows about 12.6 volts at rest overnight, took a charge after sitting for at least 7 weeks. But I know a bad battery (usually a bad cell) can seem alright, but not have the "juice" to start the bike, and know most newer bikes need a really good battery to start the high compression engines, and run all the electrics. I can see if my Gixxer one will fit, and try it. Today I only got as far as poking around under the seat, checked all fuses in fuse box, etc. Then found the starter relay and jumped, and the engine cranked, so at least I have a starter. One variable checked out of about 8!
