At first, I was afraid of this new technology, then after I used it for a while I learned to love it. Wow, I'm in my car and I can still talk to another human being that was not sitting right next to me! Then, I got brazen and decided I would actually reach out and DIAL someone just shoot the $#!+ while I was driving...Whoa, UNREAL! Then, I decided to try it on the motorcycle. WHAT! there are helmets that have microphones and speakers built in, who knew? When did this happen? The only problem now is that I couldn't use gloves to dial, so I ditched those. Then I noticed that having a jacket really limited my arm movement, so I ditched that too, then with the full face helmet on, it was difficult to see the phone display, how could I know who I was dialing? That was gone now too. Whew! with all that gear on, how was I supposed to have a conversation? Man, I am so glad that technology has given me the ability to stay in contact with all of my friends and family, even while I'm on the road. Who knows what my life would be like if I had to wait until I reached my destination to talk to someone!

Now add a small plasma TV and you can watch Oprah re-runs too.

Spending much time in areas that don't allow anything other than hands-free cell phone use while driving is fun because folks will then walk around the city with their ear buds in talking away to what seems to be nobody. It's like being in an open air insane asylum . Then when someone actually speaks to you, you ignore them because you figure they're having a phone conversation

A number of years ago a talk show did a bit on cell drivers, having 4 people who also swore the "Good driver, so I can handle it." Mantra. Each one did the course twice, first no cell the second with cell. Not one of them passed with cells. Every one of them suffered at least a 30% reduction in response time, every one failed to maintain lanes, every one hit cones depicting stationary and mobile objects (buildings, cars, people and one baby carriage), every one failed to act properly to sudden changes in conditions like a traffic light. Every. Single. One. I made my challenge in the hope you'd actually do it and see just how bad it can be, where lives are not risked. You're the one saying you're a "Good driver, so I can handle it". Heads up bunky, it is a very dangerous thing to confuse luck for skill; to be blunt, you are at best wrong and at worse delusional.

Yep! If I had my way, my bike (and car too) would have rear and side mounted launchers, all set to proximity autofire...

A friend of mine actually bought a cell phone "scrambler". Turn that thing on and all cell phones within 40-50ft. just drop their connection, no way to redial or get an incoming call until you turn it back off. I thought this would be cool to have while riding but then I thought it might actually cause the driver to be even more distracted, they would be too busy trying to figure out what happened to their call/signal. I can see it now, the person staring at the phone looking at his zero bars and then BAM! plowing right into the back of a car stopped due to traffic or worse, swerving into my lane and taking me out trying to avoid rear ending the car in front of him.

I think the only way that an individual is going to stop the cell phone use (talking/texting) while driving is if they actually get hurt/injured, or worse, hurt or injure someone else due to using the phone while driving. I think there is too much "It'll never happen to me" mentality out there for this to suddenly end and laws that prohibit cell phone use while driving are only effective if there's a law enforcement officer to witness the infraction. The best we can do for now is be cautious and pay attention to our surroundings.

    Cheers

We might start with scramblers in restaurants, theatres, churches, hair salons, barber shops, WalMart, ect. For those who even get in a fender bender there is a record of the call if a cell was in use. IMO a fine of around ten grand or some jail time might be a good persuader. A complete ban on cell use while driving or riding, the latter for idiots, is coming. Stats are up for many countries and states. Same deal, use the cell or texting whilst driving and do the time.

Bottom line here is ya can't take a candyass stance on this one. It is so obvious there is a strong lobby for cell use even wnile taking a dump much less driving that being in the middle of the road is chickenshit at best.

A couple of LAWS rockets facing backward on a bike might be fun not only to scare the beejesus out of a yakking cager but also could verify some of those top ends, claimed by some on thier stockers.
