Funny you should mention this. I live in west Sonoma County, and this Saturday is the Levi "Granfondo" bicycling event, i.e. 7500 bicyclists and public road closures. What you never read about in the papers is the teams and cyclists that show up ahead of time and completely occupy the lanes. I also ride a bicycle, but I won't ride it on the roads out here. There is barely enough room for cars to successfully avoid each other. There is nothing more maddening than two or three bicyclists who refuse to ride single file, regardless of how many cars stack up behind them. I should mention that this is commonplace, not just when there is a racing event coming up.

Why, oh why, did we ever stop having public beatings?

I got into riding road bicycles about two years ago and have been on maybe a dozen rides. Been riding stationary bikes because of a re-hab accident I had 20 years ago (so cardio is gud) anywho, there have been people that were out on rides that got torpedoed at an intercection recently from a speeding car that robbed a bank. They had a memorial ride for the two of them not too long ago.

I was out on the viffer a month ago stretching its legs out, 120 mph or so for a one thousand one, one thousand two, one thousand three count; and if I could of rubbed my eyes I would have, (was wearing a full face skid-lid.) On the horizon was a conglomarate of things, turned out, they were bicyclist taking up the entire right lane of a road thats out in the everglades that sees average traffic going at least 70 mph or so, granted it may have been early Saturday morning, just not a smart thing to do if you wana live a long time.

Flash back a number of years same road not too far down, was the fastest I ever rode a bike on the street. Could have been a scud-missle ripping thru human flesh :kaboom:

I can't imagine anyone being against those large bicycling events. Any red or even faded pink is 30 points. Fewer points for the other colors but the sheer numbers make it like shooting bicycles in a barrel.

There must be something with BMW (car) drivers. Number of years ago, for work, I was headed to work in a different hospital. Driving my own car, I went to the wrong hospital. I called the people I was supposed to meet, and not wanting to drive and talk, I turned left to head into a parking lot. From the left lane. Normally, not a big deal, but being on a 1-way, it is. I was doing maybe 20 MPH. Guy (Dr for the other hospital) hit my car (my fault) right on the rim, tire to tire. no damage either car. Left a bit of his tire on my car. Took pictures, exchanged info even though he said nothing was wrong with his car. The rubber came off the rim, so no damage done at all. Told the wife, (not happy as it was her car) and nothing happened. He called my insurance company trying to claim other damage before I even got home. I sent the insurance company pictures with point of impact and such. I later got something from the insurance saying there was a claim, but no payout. It counted against me, but not really. Never quite understood it.

I split for the first time the other day after telling myself I would never do it. Traffic was totally stopped and I was not going fast but I felt surprisingly comfortable doing it. Watching the cars movement and mainly the drivers in their mirrors will tell you if they are going to be problematic (assholes).
