In regards to the breather. A VFR I purchased had been repainted and the breather was blocked full of primer and dust. Compressed air back up the rubber overflow tube cleared it out. Just trace it carefully from the filler neck through the tank and down near the side stand. Just use low pressure and cover your bike with rags (unlike me). I ended up with shit everywhere.

Good idea, thanks. I cleaned the shit out of mine with carb cleaner and I think I got it good but for fun I'll try your way also. On the 3rd gen, the overflow isn't a continuous tube from the tank to the bottom of the bike. There is a lil funnel on the engine just below the bottom of the tank. It acts like a lil drip pan. Anyway, I know where to blow the air into. Just have to get my tank empty.

Just to close the thread with my final thoughts/results. The R/R was toast. Got a VFRness from wiremybike.com and a new R/R. Definitely helped but I also ended up doing a carb synch. It took forever with nice burns on my XXL size hands and still didn't get them perfect but I think both problems are what caused my issue. The idle when hot is much smoother now and no dieing on me. Plus, I'm charging my battery at idle too!!!!
