I've been working to graft a CBX750F dual headlight into a VF750F fairing. I've got the lights mounted and the fairing altered:

Now I need to decide which way to go with the windscreen.

So I spent some time with photoshop and I'm going to ask for personal opinions which is always a loaded question.

    Option 1:

    Altered fairing, stock windscreen

    Pros Stock windscreen, no fab.

Cons - More plastic welding, possible fairing weakness. May look funny with large flat upper surfaces.

    Option 2:

Altered windscreen, unaltered fairing (from current state)

Pros - Less cutting of OE fairing plastic

Cons - Need to fab a windscreen, maybe a bit funny looking with large windscreen.

Keep in mind, the idea is to retain as much of the VF750F feel as possible, even with the dual headlights. I want it to look like and 80's bike, not a newer 90's+ bike.

    I'm leaning towards option 1.....

In my own personal opinion, I kind of like the looks of option one. IMHO option 1 makes the upper fairing looks slimmer and more streamlined, whereas option 2 the larger windscreen (the width of the two headlights) makes the upper fairing look visually larger. A definitive bonus to option 1 might also be that I think it would be more difficult to change the windscreen. At least you can paint the fairing after it is altered whereas I think it would be harder to fab or alter the windscreen. If it makes any difference my son (5 years old) when he looked at the two pictures, for quite some time I might add, said very matter of factly after studying the picture for Option 1, "It looks like the bike is smiling in that picture."

Sometimes, kids can say the darnest things. LOL

I like the second one with the bigger screen personally, but of course, you knew this would mean war!!! The first dosen't look bad per-se but the screen kinda looks dinky sitting atop the rather massive front fairing. I think the larger screen blends well with the fairing and won't look out of place like an afterthought. Of course, depending on what color you paint it can make worlds of difference in the final appearance.

I like option one but either one would look great with the right paint. Kudos for your work, very nice.

    I actually started building #2:

(Thats only to make a negative to vacuum form a finished piece)

But somehow, it started to feel like the bike was getting a lot of "forehead", like a guy with a receding hairline. Kind of loosing the VF feel and moving into a touring bike kind of thing.

I think I'm going with option 1 and i can use some paint "trickery" if the end product looks a tiny bit "off"....

Got to agree with that. It looks like a fat head w/option 2. Option 1 is cleaner look without looking bulky. Though the square headlites look OK. I think round ones would have looked better. Never really like sq/rectangular headlites even in cages.

I'm supposed to be getting, if Greyhound can find it, a 85 1000R fairing for my 750. It has the rec headlite stock. I'd like to change to two rounds. Plus a round headlite has the best focal point for light emitting. I see though the lens inside of the sq's are round but the bezel is not. Wonder how they compare with the rounds.

Those are cbx750f headlights and eurospec.

Its not really fair to compare them to NA spec lights but they burn paint off vehicles and scare wildlife two counties over.....well, maybe a bit if an exageration but I've ridden cbx750f's in the uk and rhe light output is amazing.

That first pic view made me nervous, I thought I'd made a bad decision. But, it starts to look better as I work on it:

Nothing to do but keep at it, but I think it's going to turn out well.

    Agreed

for everyone who chimed in on the thread, there aren't as many votes in the poll?

WTF folks, this is America - there should be more votes than ballots!

Nah, this is only a streetbike for commuting and ambling sunday rides in the country.

The only real thing to worry about on this bike with aerodynamics is helmet buffeting....

Check my build thread on vfrd, or here on this forum. Although there's less detail here.

    In a nutshell:

Machine swingarm for width, machine frame mounts, machine swingarm pivot bolts, install different bearings, fabricate bearing spacers, custom links for shock linkage, cbr1000rr shock, rearrange "guts" under tank/seat, wheel spacers and build offset drive sprocket. Toss in a few other odds and ends like brake lines and you done...

    There we go:

Took a bit of work, but just how i wanted it.

Looks like an 80's V45 on first look but just different enough for a double take.

    Perfect.

It's all finishing work now. Sounds like a pleasant way to spend a winter....;)
