    Hi,

I was wondering if a 954rr swinger can be fitted on a vf700. i was looking to fighter it out (i know most of you aren't fans.) and the OEM swing arm just doesn't look right for what my plans are. The reason i chose the 954rr is because in the cbr forums i see a lot of guys putting '98 vfr SSA's, and i've seen the some SSA's on some vf1kr's (i know the frames are very similar) so i was wondering if this was possible without dumping loads of money onto frame surgery and what not.

P.S. the project isn't in full motion yet. I'm still drawing out sketches and seeing what parts i want/need. mechanically the bike runs great with only 17k miles and the PO was my father so no worries on PO abuse. :D

The 954 arm is wider than the opening in the frame by quite a bit. Sorry, that arm is out. Perhaps a 900rr?

I've seen lots of stuff "done", but only a VERY few were correct. The rest were boarderline unsafe to ride. I will say this much, you will want to try and start with something that has a 160 rear tire. A 180 can be made to fit but it takes extra effort. Swingarm swaps are some of the most difficult things to do, so be prepared for much modification and fabrication.

I have a kit to mount a 900RR rear wheel to your bike, but it uses the stock swingarm. That width is really just for show as the 700/750's don't have enough power to out muscle a 160 tire, let alone a 180.

i'm okay with the fab work and stuff since i have ways to get it done, but i can see how the width would be a clearance problem. i was looking for weight reduction/looks/performance out of this mod. mostly looks since i love the 954 swinger after purchasing my 954. and i do plan on giving this bike a bigger rear sprocket... like i shouldn't go on the highway kind of sprocket.

do you by any chance know of any swingarms that look similar to the 954 but will fit my bike without MAJOR surgery? Oh also i plan on modding the sub frame if that plays a major factor at all.

    Thanks a lot

That probably won't save you any weight, in fact it might add a few pounds. Sounds surprising but I think if you weighed the parts you would be shocked. I have to measure both sprung and unsprung weights of bikes to get the suspensions setup properly. I think many people have a misunderstanding of how heavy certain parts of their bike are, especially the rear unsprung weight. That can often be 10% or more of the entire motorcycle weight.
