    Hello All,

I recently picked up a 2002 vfr? The bike did not have frame sliders. Got it home and dropped (at standstill) it a day later in the garage (while trying to put it on center stand for the first time).

Any advise on frame sliders which are not like over $200 or do not require drilling holes in fairing/coolant bottle. Are Crash Mushrooms (UK) any good? I know Motivation makes sliders but need to drill holes in fairing/coolant bottle.

Also, can i fix the repair at home. My mechanical skills are limited to oil and battery changes ie bare minimal.

    Thanks
    FM

Cheap solution get some sticker like (Hello Kitty) Problem solve.
There is a compound that I bought recommended by one of the inmate here  for minor scratchs you have to take time and buff them out
I have the whole tube if you want, by looking at the pictures those scar quite deep I would just leave as it for character.
As for the mirror you can get them on fleebay identical to the OEM for about $40 clamps a set.
Hope Stoshsmonster can chimp in to help you with the paint.

Whats bothering me is that I had the bike for only 2 days and I dropped it. I didn't get a chance to order frame sliders.

Can you please tell me the name of the compound. I found this website Motorcycle Paint - ColorRite to purchase a color pen or brush(don't know which one to get).

Worst case, if I cant let it go I will take the fairing out and take it to an auto body shop and ask them for a quote. If its like a 100 bucks- I will spend it and get it over with.

SHIT DAM IT TO HELL. So sorry for that blunder. If I were you I would take it to a paint shop and have it repaired--but expect to spend over $100. I only stand 5'6 and put my bike on the center stand daily-- right side of course, right foot on tab , left hand on clip on, right hand on handle--- I always try to lean it to wards me a tad when I initially do the heave howe. Hope that helps and if I'm not mistaken the color code is under the seat.
Cant say I haven't dropped my VFR---backing out of a parkin spot and glanced a pole with my right turn signal---pretty upsetting-Sorry Man

omg that sucks so bad !! I would really be upset, however why dont you bring the bike in for a custom paint job and make the bike yours !
    If money is an issue
    - replace the mirrors, and use cutting compounds on the paint and scratches, you wont get it perfect but you can make it look better than what it is now.

I ordered touch-up paint from my dealer.
Less than $10 and no shipping charges.

You probably don't need touch up paint. It looks like the clear coat got scratched, so the place to start is some rubbing compound. Go to a local auto paint supplier and ask for a compound to take out the scratches. If the compound doesn't clean it up, then you can consider some touch up paint. Yes, the crash mushrooms would probably have minimized the scratching on the fairing, but they are not as sturdy as the hard frame mounted sliders. When it gets sunnier, I plan on welding some reinforcements on for mine.

I saw these on a post on the forum a while back and they are of the "no cut" variety Promoto Melbourne - Frame Sliders - Axle Oggys - Oggy Knobs. I inquired with the company via email, as they are in Australia and here is an email that I got from them back in August. Note that the prices are in Australian dollars.

There are no stockists of our product in the US, however we do ship
to the US. I cannot directly accept a credit card payment, but I can
issue you a Paypal invoice if you supply your details or I can post
the item on eBay Australia as a Buy It Now item and send you the link.

OK548 no cut frame sliders kit sells for AUD$249. The shipping weight
of OK548 is in the 2.5-3.0kg range.

There are three Australia Post freight options-

ECI (Express Courier International) 2-4 business days
    AUD$110.10

EPI (Express Post International) 3-7 business days
    AUD$89.00

AM (Air Mail) 3-10 business days
    AUD$83.25

More information regarding these services is available at
    Home - Australia Post

The kit will fit a 2009 model VFR800, however there is one small
modification required to fit the kit on US/Canadian models. An
emissions valve on the right hand side needs to be modified so that
it uses one mounting bolt instead of two. It is a very simple thing to
    do.

If you would like to proceed with a purchase, please let me know via
return email including which freight option you prefer and which
colour knobs you require, black(OK548) or white(OK549) and I shall
forward you the Paypal invoice or the link to eBay, whichever you prefer.

    Thanks,

Some garage floors are slick which might be the reason you dropped your bike. If my eyes are still good, the paint damage is through the clearcoat, the colordoat and the primer.

    1. The scratches on the engine case can be fudged with some black. Scuff the ridges mask area and brush on some black One-Shot.

    2. Dropping a 500lb+ bike creates a shitload of force that can cause damage beyond what is apparant even when the drop is not at speed. I'd pop off those hex stovebolts and other fasteners and start checking for other structural damage to the plastic..

    3. Most body shops are ill equipped both physically and mentally to paint bikes. Be prepared for them to snicker or BS you as to what can be done for a hundred bucks.

    4. An entire paintjob on a VFR is gonna be pricy if done right. Individual panels in red are , and you can quote me, are bloody impossible to match. Close, yes but no cigar. Just as a ballpark.. The paint alone in a "regular" color with the reducers, additives catalyzers and clearcoats can run well over $200.00 and up. Up BTW is an infinite term.

    5. Next, we shall hear from the Rattlecan Rangers, who hang out in the Walmart paint aisle..

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The scratches are very minor so just get out there and do some miles with the west coast boys. Shit happens and more than likely it will get more scratches over time unless you incase it in glass.

I use Meguires cut polish and it works great at taking out the majority of minor scratches. The rest I live with because nobody sees them when I pass them at 80 mph.

What kind of exhaust do you have on there? I see the unique shield on the collector pipe but I don't recognize it.

Well, I don't exactly know how much a paint job will cost but I can buy a matching fairing off ebay for less than $150. I am going to try Meguires cut polish first.

I cannot work on the bike now as I sprained my ankle in order to save the bike from falling. I have a cast on my right leg and walkin with crutches.

I have full insurance on the bike so if the repair gets close to deductible ($250), I might just use my insurance (whats the point of having full insurance if I cannot use it).

I did crawl my way to the garage just to check if it turns on and runs. It did run

Next is frame sliders.....does anyone has experience with motivation or t-rex frame sliders? I am not spending $200+ on frame sliders.

I see most vfr owners dont get frame sliders? Why is that?

A claim might raise your insurance premium more than you realize. Might be worth checking before you file the claim.

welcome and DAMN! Too bad on the garage rash. fairings for the 6th gen are cheap and can be had from your honda dealer. Just make sure they dont screw you by jacking the price, get quotes from several if you can, its worth driving 2hrs is your going to save $100. the metal shiny parts could be buffed out but it will take lots of time, the anodized covers can be smoothed and re anodized. Tremclad black is a good cure if you want cheap. when all else fails, EBAY! and salvage yards though salvage yard parts may have their own marks of accomplishments.

You might want to verify this with your dealer to be sure the 2002 and 2004 use the same paint code, but the paint color code for my 2004 Italian Red is R157
Invoice shows Honda Part number 08704-R157-PN
Fairly close match and nobody has ever commented on my dinged up panels
I really like my VFR, but it is a heavy pig
I've managed to drop it 3 times in the 2 years I have owned it
Once was while practicing low speed turns so I wouldn't drop it
I just put my feet down and paddle/duck-walk whenever I'm in doubt
