They weren't involved in the accident, thus were under no obligation to stay. I would've stopped long enough to laugh in his face, but that's me...

    Reminds me of that commercial:

    "Is it fast?"
Harley rider: "It's got a lightning bolt on it doesn't it?"

Truly, it's not a Harley owner that responds in the commercial. In my head it is though :)

Harley owners are in an elite category of people who will pay top dollar for something that is brand new in 2013 and from a technology point of view, is immediately considered vintage.

Well now boys, it is not nice to pick on the slow kids. They can enjoy life too. Just not at the same speed as the rest of us. BTW, His FLHTCUI (or whatever) would not be able to keep up with my GL1800. I have a friend who rides a worked Dyna Low Rider and he can't pull away from the winger when we are two up and he is solo. Yes, he has spent multi money to get it that fast, but putting lipstick on a pig does not stop it from being a pg. And, yes before I got older and wiser I owned several HDs, proving the axiom, before you can become older and wiser you must first be young and stupid.

Did you notice that most used the rear brake only. All they did was lock the rear tire. That's what Ride Like a Pro and those guys teach. Don't touch the front brake or you'll go down. :koolaid: I watch a few vids on youtube, just scary.

Yep, locked up the rear and low or highsided.. Do you have a direct source in print on the net where "Ride Like a Pro" says this? Looks like a lot of that Ride Like a Pro stuff comes from old motor officer riding theory the worst of which is riding in tandem. This comes from the last century when the LEOs rode Harleys, nobody wore helmets and they didn't have radios..

Grabbing a handful of front brake in soft stuff at low speed can dump ya. Drum brakes are bigtime offenders. What I saw until I had to stop watching was a bunch of locking up the rear, and then getting off the gas and down ya go. This, not to mention some pretty lousy lines.. and... a whole bunch of harleydoods that have seen too many Peter Fonda movies..

Just my opinion here, but I wish everybody started on dirt bikes when to young to get a license. Graduated to sports bikes with their license. Moved to sport tourers or tourers after middle age and saved cruisers for senility. Oh wait by the evidence earlier in the thread, maybe they did.

Considering the power to weight ratios, hands down you will be way ahead of him. If it was a night rod or a XR1200, it would have been otherwise.

Don't need it in print it's on video. About 1:10 Never Never Hit that front brake at low speeds or you'll go down! Plus at 1:56 he states the only way to turn a bike is by leaning. You have to lean in order to turn a bike. Yes some of this he states it's low speed. People I know who took courses like this never remembered the "low speed" aspect. They think you "turn a bike by leaning" and "never hit the front brakes". I think this guy does more harm that good. But hey he's an experienced "Harley Rider". I guess that means only Harley's should be ridden this way....................

No way! Those Harleys will not do 180 like every VFR here except my now intercontintentily (theres a choker) famous mach 1 91. The harleydoods would probably fall off anyway.

Josh- he's a typical Harley owner. I know them all too well, as not only did I work for a couple years as a parts guy at an HD dealership (worst work years of my life) but I also had a run in with some on the road a couple years ago while on my vintage 650 Yamaha. I told the story on another forum so I'll just cut and paste it for you. What you are about to read is 100% true with no exaggerations. Enjoy.

    Here's the full story-

"Tonight I decided to take my old '73 Yamaha 650 out for a ride to clear out the cobwebs. Cruising along nicely, the bike's happy to be running after so long. After a few minutes I see a group of three riders coming up behind me, all on Harleys. They pass me slowly-One guy on a dresser, one woman on a Heritage, and another couple on a dresser. Now it's a four lane road and I see a nice clear lane so I change lanes and slowly cruise by them. I get to a red light and here they are behind me again. I hear them muttering...something-Triumph(which is on the back of my leather jacket). I think, sigh ok here we go,. Sure enough the guy blazes past me in my lane when the light changes. I gave him the "lame" gesture and thought to myself oh I'm so impressed. At the next light I tell him "did anyone ever tell you how awesome you are?", he speeds off again. Total a-hole. Next the woman blasts past me and then starts slowing and trying to force me out of my lane. You've got to be kidding right? Really? The third bike hangs back. So I play along and race a little bit, keeping my almost-40 year old bike in mind. She keeps trying to run me out of my lane, not seeing the red light ahead. I close my throttle and slow down to stop. She slams on her brakes at the last minute and skids through the intersection barley missing two cars turning into the road and almost drops the bike. The a hole guy comes up beside me and calls me a wimp or something. I start laughing at him and tell him "yeah and you people are so awesome"! So the light turns, and he speeds off of course and pulls into a parking lot where the moron woman was, probably shaking like a leaf in a puddle of urine from her near miss. I slowly ride by the guy, pointing at him and laughing out loud. At this point I found the whole thing very funny- how pathetic are you people?! "I just got my Harley and I got somethin to prove- hey let's gang up on the lone rider on his vintage Japanese bike and show him what tough bikers we are". News flash for you losers- you aren't bikers- you're middle class posers who tried to buy an "I'm cool, I'm tough" image. Real bikers would kill you. I have several motorcycles and have been riding since I was 6, on the street since 18. And of ALL motorcycle brands, 99% of the times I get messed with in some way by another motorcycle rider, they're ALWAYS on a Harley. These people all seem to have something to prove which I do not understand. We're all riders here, can't you just live and let live? No you have to rev your engine, tear past me, show-off, or worse yet try to force me out of my lane. So I say to 99% of Harley riders out there, get a life. You aren't any better than any other rider on another brand so get over yourselves. In fact, you are the worst type of rider/person. Sure I've met some nice people on Harleys, but it's the exception not the rule and that's sad. I call them the 1%-ers, the rest I have no use for. So if you ride a Harley and this offends you, look deep within and ask yourself why you want to be associated with this brand and this mentality. Myself, I love motorcycles. I don't care what you ride, but tell me, why a Harley?"

For what it's worth I also own a Harley in addition to other makes, but often I'm ashamed to even admit it. My advice is to ignore these dolts next time. You know you can beat them in a race so what's the point?

Ok Im just riding along at 70 mph when I notice a group of bikes coming up fast. Wasnt long and Im surrounded by at least 10 GoldWings. These guys were pushing a steady 90 mph. After about 50 miles of trailing them. I pull into a fuel stop. Theres The GoldWing group. I fuel up and grab a Snickers and a orange juice. I had my bags and cargo net full. I over hear one say , Why would you travel on a bike like that. I look over and said Why? Because Im not old enough to ride a bike like that yet. But when I turn 60 Ill get one. This guy had to be ten years younger than me. After that I figured it was time to get moving, more of them less of me .I have to say There are some GoldWing riders that are very egotistical. Try waving at one. I will say there bikes will out run a Harley and are capable of holding a 100 mph for long periods. Im just not into riding a recliner. (YET):behindsofa:

My experience with Wing riders is that most of them ride in convoys, really slowly.

Don't knock it till you've tried it! Different tools for different jobs. I am lucky enough to be able to afford a Goldwing and a VFR. When I want to spend 400 miles in a day on a bike, nothing can out class the Winger - electronic cruise, XM radio etc. For a quick jaunt through the local twisties, nothing is more fun that the VFR, except maybe a Ducati, but who has that kind of money for a toy! Just sayin'.......... and BTW, nearly every wing rider I ever met (as well as VFR riders, CBR riders, etc.) was proof of the old Honda slogan "You meet the nicest people on a Honda". Next time you hear such a comment try responding with, "Because it is what I choose to ride" instead of starting out with an insult. I bet you then have a good conversation about your and their bikes. (it has even worked for me with guys on Harleys)

Although, I agree I have had some bad experiences with Wingers as well (and I'm a nice guy, OK, maybe not)... They tend to have a different attitude than Hardley riders, but attitude just the same. In general, of course, there are always exceptions to the rule...

I may have been more sociable had he not had been a Ass right off the bat. He was extremely abrasive in his posture and attitude towards me. He made sure he spoke loud enough for me to here him and had a few demeaning things to say about my bike before I responded. I know I didnt detail that in my original post. I thought I was appropriate in my response without being a butthead . I thought about explaining the difference between a VFR and RR but decided he was a waste of breath. As far as having a GoldWing I said not YET. I am looking at trading the VTX in on a REAL touring bike here in a year or two. Im also looking at the Kawasaki Voyager. Im 50 and I take a couple 800 mile trips one way a year on my VFR .400 miles in a day with a couple stops for fuel or food . I have no comfort issues. I take the VTX Only if the Wife goes. I wasnt digging at all GoldWingers. If I offended you I apologize. Might need some info on a Wing here in time and I sure dont want to burn a bridge.
