Hello I bought a Honda VFR 800 Fi 1998 in September. It has a slip on erion exhaust, and a power commander that i have tried to connect and disconnect. It has almost 37000 miles on it I have had some problems with it, in the first month it would run as normal except from when the engine got to around 205-220 degres, then it would missfire sometimes between 3000-4500, feels like it is getting to much or to little fuel when you are just maintaining the speed or having igntiion problems, if give more throtle it runs as normal. The muffler looks very dark so it looks lile it is getting to much fuel. The air filter is new, k&N, also new spark plugs. Using 91 fuel. But the last weeks it has startding to have worse symtoms. Before it reaches 170 degres it will missfire pretty bad between 3000-4500 rpm when you accelerate and maintainng the speed. but they are almost gone when it reaches 170 degres. I also think the regulator is broken, it sometimes charges with 18 volts. So I was wondering were do I start? has anyone had the same symtoms? I dont want to send it to the honda shop because they wount do anything with the fuel/air mixture becuase of the slip on exhaust. Is it because if ignition problems? or the regulator causes electrical problems? does it need a new map on the power commander?
Which Power comand you got, did you check to see the o2 eliminator has been install? Do you have the right map for your set up?
I would say your regulator would require a few moments with a multi-meter. From what I understand, anything over 15 volts is too high and could cook the battery. There is a thread on how to check to make sure your charging system is working properly, and sorry I can't help with the misfire problem. If the r/r is allowing the system to overcharge that might cause problem throughout the electrical system I would think. Thanks. I have no idea what map is on the power commander, there is no difference when it is connected/disconnected. It is a old cammandor, 2 or 3. I think I will start with the charging issues first, maybe that will fix the problem:smile:
